A leader in the consumer goods industry, PG is one of my favorites. The company is very well diversified with 5 main segments which target Beauty, Grooming, Health care, Fabric/home care and baby care. It is home to internationally recognized brands including Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Olay, Gillette, Duracell, Febreze, Bounty, among many others!

PG competes in an industry of products that are necessary for daily living/grooming regardless of what is going on with the economy. Their products are generally recognized as good quality for a good value and the brand as a whole is quite strong.

I am bullish on PG and see it beating the S&P within the next 5 years or less.

With market volatility, corrections, flash crashes, Russian invasions of their neighbors, investors will gravitate to low beta, safe bets, with good dividends. This is the ultimate safety stock, but with a good dividend and high growth.

This pick is one of the more interesting for me. Almost a double of Proctor and Gamble in 5 years - who wouldnt be happy. But note that the S&P has well out-performed. It makes an interesting case for simply choosing an index fund. I however did not buy PG for my personal portfolio.

PG continuing effort to raise dividend payout places PG in an asset class similar to a bond. As interest rates rise, (2014) expect price of PG to fall.

When picking stocks, David and Tom always say that it's about the future. PG makes products which couldn't conceivably be obsolete in the next 5-10 years. We will ALWAYS need shampoo, deodorant, razors, and nearly everything manufactured by PG.

PG is a well diversified company that should match the indexes for the most part. I have a price target of 95.00 by December 2014.

I have owned PG for many years but with the recent market decline and the fall of PG stock price from near $85/share to near $75, I decided to establish a synthetic long position in PG. A synthetic long entails the use of options and involves the same risks as the outright ownership of the common stock. Instead of buying the shares outright, I bought 2 January 15, 2016 calls (200 shares) and sold 2 January 15, 2016 puts (200 shares) each with a strike price of $75. For this trade I received a net credit of $1.65/share or a total of $318 net of commissions. If the share price is above $75/share in January of 2016, I profit just as if I bought the shares at $75. If the share price is below $75 in January of 2016, I will end up owning 200 shares of PG at an adjusted basis of $73.41/share.
