PPG is a dividend raising machine. It's one of those companies thats sits in a corner and prints money for its shareholders. The dividend means it will outperform the S&P 500.

Used to be slow growth until new leadership. Stock has experienced great growth the last few years while paying great dividends. Made me a lot of money and I feel it always will.

PPG covers a lot of bases and they are all good solid ones. Their products show up in some form in all our lives and cannot be ignored. Good management is working.

PPG Industries is one of the world's leading producers of original and refinish automotive and industrial coating. Business segments include coatings, glass and chemicals with focused resources on industrial, aerospace, packaging, architectural and automotive customers.
PPG benefits from having a diversified customer base that runs the gamut from automobile to aircraft manufacturers. This allows the company to weather difficult conditions in the broader economy and within individual industries. At the same time, its limited exposure to US manufacturers, coupled with increasing international sales, have allowed PPG to endure the decline in US manufacturing demand.
Through a combination of process improvements and price hikes, PPG has successfully passed along the entire burden of rising energy and raw-material costs to its customers in recent quarters. The company has the ability to post above-average growth as natural gas prices have moderated, and a further decline in input costs should boost margins and earnings, assuming that the global economic landscape remains stable.
The company’s sales have been largely unaffected by slowing housing starts as 75% of the segment's market is composed of commercial and specialty applications. Looking ahead, PPG has an extensive research and development pipeline in its coatings and glass businesses, which can inflate the revenues in the coming years. Moreover, a high demand from the aerospace segment is expected to drive the company’s top-line.
The company ended the second quarter of 2006 with a debt/capitalization ratio of 28%, slightly below the company's target. A low debt component together with an aggressive share repurchase program, in our opinion, should send a positive signal to the investors.

the current oil market does not bode well for the growth over the past year with the huge oil prices.
