ProtoLabs is NOT a 3-D printing company and although they are a good company the growth potential is limited.

I've been in my own business for over 30 years.
From my prospective Proto Labs is a forward thinking company has a great business plan & model. It is perfectly positioned in its self to be the go to company for rapid prototyping.

I believe that with technology like this they will revoulotionize big buinesses.Like the maker of hotwheels guess how much easier it will be to make older parts with finess. The only probelm with the buiness is in the future is that there will be people who will copy brand buinesses and sell them as knockoffs. Therefore companies such as Nike will be run into the ground because of these copiers.

Has the potential to move on up, towards the area of DDD.

As an engineer, Protolabs is my go-to company for prototypes and product components. Their excellent customer service and quick turn-around makes them one of the fastest growing injection-molders in the country. With their recent move into the 3d printing space, and a shift in manufacturing returning from China to the U.S., I can't see this stock going anywhere but up.

Yet another 3D fluff-ball.
Curious if this will inhale the same helium as DDD & SSYS.

Making money, but with only $140.73 million in shareholders' equity this company is an easy red-thumb candidate after its recent spike.

An indirect play on the nascent 3D printing market. These guys develop the prototypes for those companies that can't or won't buy their own 3D printer. As adoption and knowledge of the technology spreads, there will likely be more call for this business, just as there will be more purchasers of 3D printers. You don't need to know which 3D printing company will come out on top to invest in this industry, just buy PRLB.

Novel soup to nuts "go to" niche player in the customized traditional injection molding and machining manufacturing business (as distinguished from the inherently individualized and smaller-scale 3-D printer manufacturing methods -- which are limited to applications that lend themselves to the layered material deposition technology of customized 3-D printing manufacturing). This company empowers and facilitates the small lot "little guy" innovator/manufacturer who would otherwise find it economically unfeasible to manufacture through traditional methods but on a significantly smaller scale. PRLB has already experienced tremendous growth, but still has a long runway of huge untapped domestic and international opportunity ahead. To give some idea of the growth potential, revenue has been climbing at a 29% annual clip since 2007, and operating profits have tripled since 2009.
