Pearson PLC (ADR) (NYSE:PSO)

PSO has so frighteningly few potential catalysts amid a structural business reorganization in an industry that is slowly but surely moving into the digital world. This restructuring doesn't bode well for medium-term performance.

PSO combines a lot of popular publishing and media companies. Powerhouse publishing business, and they're angling toward emerging markets, too.

Pearson is doubling down on its move to digital content and educational platforms such as student information systems (PowerSchool) and instructional improvement systems (Schoolnet). Domestically it's well positioned to own the lions share of the near $20B ed-tech market. International is largely untapped but emerging quickly. PSO is best positioned to tap into the emerging international market.

It's the eight hundred pound gorilla of school book printing. .Always seems to reside in it's price range. Decent dividend.

They publish "The Economist" and "The Financial Times," my two favorite news sources. Nuff said.

I am slightly concerned that a powerful AMZN could diminish publishers in some way.

Becoming a company that does more than just print/publish school books, even though Pearson is a leader in that field. Branching out into online programs. Not a bigdividen however a solid company.

Those who wish to increase their jobs skills will need to buy textbooks or take tests.

Publishing? Sure, why not? The world is getting more intellectual, isn't it?

They have a strong potential for philantropy and already have a big hand in it. While this doesn't directly relate to revenue, they are still capable of transforming education, and they way we get our news. They are going to spend money in various endeavours, without a major new product or service I don't see anyone making money off their stock, but they will continue to run things from behind the scenes.

Puffin Books (a subsidiary) have good books because they have lots of fiction that I like.

Just took a test at one of their centers and I cannot imagine that as the world becomes more regulated, and professionals need testing for certification that this part of their business will grow rapidly

PSO has this little thing called Power School - it is an amazingly powerful tool for parents - I call it grade porn and anybody who admits that they really care about how their kids do in school will be addicted. It is a small part of this company but do the math - it could be HUGE

British publisher whose major business now is educational measurements. Growth in state mandated tests for students in the US has grown the test scoring business rapidly and is continued growth is expected.

Strong in the US education market, financial information, and book publishing. Owner of the FT and Economist. Finally finding focus, good yield and dividend growth. Would liek to see the FT & Economist divested - I often wonder will teh Washington Post buy it.
