*****

The Company's direct and indirect subsidiaries and partnerships are in the business of acquiring, developing, exploiting and holding interests in petroleum and natural gas properties and assets related thereto.

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Penn West Energy Trust (PWE) is the largest CANROY aka Canadian Royal Trust. CANROYs are similar to the MLPs that are available here in the U.S. in that they pay huge dividends in exchange for tax benefits from the government. The difference is that the Canadian government pulled the rug out from ...More

High Natural Gas inventories are likely to drive prices down over the coming year unless there is a shock to the system - either in terms of supply disruption or demand creation.

Longer term, however, there are reasons to believe the demand growth will pressure natural gas prices to the upside. ...More

The way CanRoys are being treated at the moment, you'd think fossil fuels had been replaced by some amazing new discovery. Even with a depression looming, the U.S., China, India, etc., will need to keep importing oil & gas; and with Mexico rapidly receding from the picture, Canada is the logical beneficiary of the U.S.'s chronic shortfall. (It helps to keep in mind that CNBC thinks "long-term" is a week. Despite the much ballyhooed decline in oil prices over the past quarter, the price of oil is still more than 10% higher than it was a year ago. That means CanRoys should be able to maintain their pay-outs, which are currently running north of 20% at today's prices.)

Good quality petrol and NG producer, with nice monthly dividend, in Canadian dollars, at 52 week low. Good long term hold.

Canadian Energy Trust, great dividends. Price of oil drives it, but oil consumption in America will keep this trust alive for a long time. Even if oil prices dive back down below $80, you still have a great dvidend.
