The Cape Wind energy project offshore of New England will hopefully be a catalyst for many more communities to invest more heavily in this energy source.

Wind power for the future in which 'alternative energy' is no longer 'alternative'.

That said, what are the pros for such an ETF? It invests in wind power generators and the ecosystem that feeds into it. What's so exciting about that?

Large capital requirements: this is not venue that Joe and Ernest Yokel can enter. It favors big companies, many of which (like GE) are already a big part of the economic universe and have the political/lobbying clout to get government to 'see it their way'.

Technology Requirements: Joe Blow doesn't make composite structures for wind turbines. Specialty makers like Hexcel (HXL) do. This creates a natural moat for the entrenched players like Vestas, Iberdrola, and GE to deepen and widen.

Who's going to buy them? Stodgy utilities and very large corporations who see the future, and/or are struggling to meet with state- and Federal- mandates or renewable kilowatt purchases.

Lastly, carbon caps and/or a cap-trade system is coming. When it does, the TRUE 'cradle to cradle' lifecycle costs of fossil-energy will be borne out, and the 'grid parity' issue will be more or less off the table, forever.

Jump on the train or get run over by it. You might not like this particular ETF (you could look at FAN as well), but this is a serious investment vehicle worth your analysis.

2 reasons:
1. Wind energy is cheaper than solar to produce.
2. With a limited supply of oil, the world will find cheaper ways to make energy as the cost of oil rises.

Wind power is becoming big in Europe (Germany, Denmark), only Don Quixote would battle against windmills. Great long-term investment as we get out of our addiction to coal and oil.

Wind Energy is a high growth sector and could outperform solar stocks in the near future. I think that Alternative Energy will only become more popular as Oil Peak and Global Warming affect our energy supply choices. ETFs are a good way to add diversity while minimizing fees. So I'm snapping up a few Wind focused ETFs with high outperform ratings while they are near their 52 week lows and I'll ride them into our, hopefully much greener future!

Kilowatts. Natural gas. Coal. Depression. Efficiency. ROI.

Most of you know the definition of those things. How can you be long global wind power? When you're starving, CO2 rates are the least of your problems. You think subsidies from bankrupt governments will save them?

The cost of energy will rise long term. The cost of wind energy will drop long term and the industry matures. This is a good set of years to accumulate alternative energy in a diversified way.

Folks, we're dealing with climate change. We're using up our fossil fuels and changing the climate of the planet. This will likely make our air windier, and we can harness the wind to power our appliances. We'll no longer need to rely on coal or oil. Furthermore, with the glaciers melted, hydro-electric power may be infeasible in dry seasons, and we'll need more electricity to power those "green" automobiles. The solution is wind. We'll have wind as long as we have days, nights, land, water, and the sun. That's why this will be a long-term winner, in spite of any short-term volatility.
