Way to go Papa John's. You caused riots in my city with your stupid 23 cent pizzas
http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2008/05/09/PAPAJOHNS.ART_ART_05-09-08_A1_JEA5CT1.html?sid=101
First you insult Lebron James, then you offer to make up for it with 23 cent pizzas but then you don't have enough dough to meet anywhere near demand so you cause riots.
" H. Rao Unnava, a professor of marketing at Ohio State University, said Papa John's made a bad situation worse by not fully considering how to implement the promotion.
'This kind of pricing is bound to cause demand that was so high that no store, operationally making pizzas that take at least 10 minutes each, could ever meet. An apology would have been sufficient, and they went overboard.' "
yeah no (*expletive*)

With management like that, poor execution, high P/e, food inflation, high gas prices and perception as expensive pizza why would I want this stock?
I'm shorting this sucker come monday morning on principle.

Papa Johns has decent financials and is posed for growth. Like most companies, it has felt the impact of the current economic woes and its stock price reflects it. However, Papa Johns has an aggressive growth plan, expecting to expand in Canada. This should help revenue and improve their bottom line.
With regard to same in store sales, Papa Johns may show some benefit from the current economic challenges. Their take home pizzas are less expensive than pizzas at traditional shops. Consumers who are pinched because of gas/energy prices, can turn to Papa Johns to get their pizza fix at an affordable price.

Better ingredients, better pizza! Papa Johns!
For almost 20 years, now I have not found fault with that slogan. After coming home from freshman year in college to find that a Papa John's had come south from Louisville to my hometown, I spent the next three years wondering why it wouldn't hurry up and get to my college town so I could buy their succulent pies on points!
Later, once I had a job and some cash for investments, I comforted my mid-to late 1990s years on the west coast waiting for the Papa to get out there by going long on the stock. And what a greta stock to own then--dynamic domestic and international growth prospects, a pizza that was winning the love of all that tasted it, and, perhaps best of all, a running-scared Pizza Hut that actually filed suit against PZZA for its slogan, in the process actually getting a judge to verify that indeed, Papa john's did have Better Pizza!
But those days seem to have gone. While I still love their pizzas over the competition, their growth has matured, and they have abandoned what used to be the cornerstone of their supremacy: simple, focused menu. Now they offer wings, wild specialty pizzas, and cinnapies.
Worse, their earnings always seemed to be off for a reason: the price of cheese, or the price of gas. Well, why was the price of cheese never the reason for overperformance before?
I am not saying that this stock is done--I am just saying that what made it special in years past is gone, and it is just another pizza stock. Part of me says that is a bit of a value stock with its performance over the last two years. But at 23x earnings and FCF shrinking by 50% over the past two years, it looks overbaked.
II may be wrong. I hope I am wrong, because I still love the pizza. But IMHO, the company is nota as good as its pizza is.

With a new catering menu out they should see higher guest check averages and higher profitability. At $26, it's a strong buy.
