Trying a sector bet. Let's see if I picked the wrong time and/or sector. No guts, no glory.

This is an interesting little company, I had to go to their website to the quarterly reports, and cash flow was up which is a good sign for an S&L, maybe in the future they could even become a buyout target once finance firms turnaround. I guess that you could value the company high enough that including the dividend it is a buy. I do think they would be better off with less shares outstanding though...like a third as much

These guys operate as a Mortgage Investment Company (MIC) in Canada and mainly hold first mortgages. The majority of their loans are in British Columbia with some in Alberta as well. I have had the air taken out of me on this pick but as they raised their dividend 80% in May of this year (now at ( 9.6% ) I am holding on to this stock hoping that when the sub-prime mess is over (it will be over someday won't it?) these guys will reward me for my foresight and stubbornness.

In anticipation of the eventual rebound of the financial sector. A little early for bottom feeding, but I am just indiscriminately putting all stocks that are tagged S&L.

Gold and silver have taken a sudden drop during the past week. Many speculators are panicing and claiming that this is the end of the "commodity bubble". I don't think so. If you look at the fundamental reason behind the last 6 months rise in precious metals, you have to ask yourself....has anything changed? I don't think so. The Fed continues to pump liquidity into the market, the interest rate continues to decline, inflation continues to increase and the dollar continues to fall. That being said....if due to demand decreases oil drops sharply from here...there is a possibility that precious metals will follow. Precious metals will experience quite a bit of volatility and the gyrations may be tough to handle but I think due to the fundamentals that I mentioned above that a year from now precious metals will be much higher.

1. Director just bought more shares

2. A play on the canadian dollar appreciation VS USD (inflation pressure on the USD is very high following bernanke's decisions)

3. Lower P/E, P/B, P/FCF relative to its competitors

4. Low P/E, P/B, P/FCF in absolute terms (high earnings yield + lower ratios than the S&P)

5. Small cap, potential for multibagger status

6. Pays dividend, and higher than it's sector, industry and the S&P

7. 14% institutional ownership (= good enough for funds to buy them, but still relatively ignored by wall street, future buying by institutions may create upward pressure on the stock price)

8. No debt!!

What the heck, I'm buying this in my real life portfolio

I have stock in canadian mining companies due to mining companies increasing their profits. Mining companies need startup money to begin mining then they have to pay interest on the money they borrow. I think this company will increase in share price over the next five years and hopefully onwards. .

This Candian Bank is growing at a 14% clip, pays a 2.6% dividend, and is a hedge against the ersoion of the dollar. I look for a double over the next 3-years
