In my opinion, technology are better poised to survive the downturn. A lot of the Q4 2008 winners are tech stocks -- AAPL, GOOG, IBM, ORCL. S&P whole will be dragged down by retail stocks (apart from the discount retailers like WMT/AMZN) and of course financials -- tech stocks may not actually be in the black for 2009, but will still outperform the S&P500.
