The sales of the Fiskar, which Quantum is the OEM and part owner, is sold out for 2009 and orders are being taken for 2010. Even if the industry is young the outlook for future opportunities, not only with autos, is positive. Whoever winds up in office is pushing the US to invest further into alternative power and Quantum is diverse enough to have growth potential.

Pure speculative pick on a company that has never shown a profit. There is a chance that can change next year with the introduction of the plug-in electric hybrid vehicle, Karma (which will retail for $80,000). Quantum makes the Karma's Q drive motor making this stock primarily dependent on the worlds purchasing habits toward more effiicient cars, clean energy, and reducing dependence on oil.

Partnership with Toyota and GM owns large share of company. Quantum also owns a large stake in German solar player Asola that has seen double digit top and bottom line growth for 5 years. Fisker automotive is the sexiest hybrid car coming to market and their military vehicle is faster than a Viper and has no heat signature.

Pretty good company in the alternative energy sector that is relatively cheap. It's a "penny stock" (<$5/share) but I think it has positioned itself well for some strong growth over the next few years with some good exposure to solar energy, hybrid drives, and hydrogen fuel cells.
