Cheap, cheap, cheap. Can't go anywhere but up (unless it goes out of business).

It may take a year or two to recover from the cost of buying out Brooks and the price will sneak up slowly but $2 for a stock that splits at $20+ is a bargin.

True, Rite Aid has their bag of problems, however at <3 P/E the stock is extremely cheap. Their brand name alone is worth more than that. Plus, at $2B market cap they are an easy acquisition target by Walgreen or CVS, which seem overvalued and might be tempted to cash in their high stock prices by sweeping up competition.

Heavily leveraged #3 drugstore chain, trading at a low multiple to potential earnings 1-2 years down the road, will be a homerun if they aren't choked by a mountain of debt. High interest rates would do them in, but 2/3 of income coming from prescription drugs should protect them from recessionary slowdown so they are a play on recession and the low interest rates that would probably go with it.

Investing doesn't get better than this. RAD is going back to the teens. Don't worry about CVS and Walgreens... they might be bigger, but RAD is much much cheaper and quickly gathering a respectable market share. There is going to be a lot of growth this Flu season and RAD is going to lead the return in it's sector.

A speculative, turnaround drugstore play trading very close to all-time lows of $1.35/share as integration of Brooks/Eckerd along with promotional spending continues to generate losses. Longer term, over 5,000 locations should capitalize on convenience as consumers look for local solutions due to high gas prices.

Once Rite Aid gets behind it the "jitters" of the Brooks Eckard acquisition, I believe it will begin to stabilize and quell fears in the eyes of investors.
