Say yes to FCF of over $2 billion.

While unhealthy, once again, people will resort to cigarettes to attempt to de-stress during these tough economic times

As long as tobacco is legal. This company will make money.

Earns money if not admiration.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em! Numbers are solid. Debt vs. Cash/sales looks solid. Div yield is consistent and good. What's not to like here? Price still depressed

I have owned RAI for many years and it has never failed to come through with a steady, sizeable dividend. I am also UP almost 90% on the current stock price from the date that I bought it. And the current price is considerably lower than the price of approximately $70.00 that it was trading at merely 2 years ago. Even if it doesn't get back to that lofty price, I consider it one of my best purchases ever and will probably increase my holdings soon,

Great financials will drive this stock. The stock has been oversold due to fears of increased government regulation.

This portfolio tracks the performance of good companies vs. evil companies.
RJR was and is still evil.

Conservative dividend pick. If no suprises come from legislation than it should outperform over the next year, especially if the SP500 remains weak (which I expect).

This stock was chosen as part of a group of stocks based upon criteria which focused heavily on dividend yield, cash flow, and balance sheet information.

This is in my opinion the most diversified tobacco company there is. They have their name brand cigarettes (camel) they have their high-end expensive line (American spirits) they have their cheapo off-brand (pall mall) and they have both cheap and expensive versions of chewing tobacco. Now they're experimenting with nicotine breath mints! Reynolds is on the forefront of innovation and diversification as far as tobacco goes, while Phillip morris may have the global brand name, Reynolds has the higher growth possibilities.

At this price, (an impairment charge affected profits, and of course you get an overreaction), RAI is a strong buy.
High dividend in a stable market. A sin-stock for the American market.

Dividend - high return and relatively safe

I have concerns about the declining revenue and somewhat excessive debt, but they are overshadowed by the juicy dividend. New products in the pipeline and expanding global market share should keep RAI on an even keel, and maybe even provide some decent growth. Despite absurd political and social policies, cigarettes aren't going away anytime soon - not in this country or any other.

I don't personally know about the rest of their brands, but Altria just suddenly and inexplicably hiked their prices on their most popular brand, Marlboro Lights, by nearly two dollars a pack well ahead of the SCHIP tax hike. Brand loyalty among smokers is traditionally strong, but it only goes so far, especially when this hike represents as much as a 60% price increase in many low-tax states, such as here in North Carolina. RAI, who sells the main competitor to Marlboro Lights, Camel Lights, stands to gain a big bump in market share over this, so long as they don't follow suit. This will be reflected in their next couple quarterly statements, and should really help their stock out in the short- to mid-term.
One obvious caveat. If Reynolds DOES substantially raise their prices outside of the tax hike, I will seriously re-evaluate this pick.

10% dividend, it's worth the risk even if the payout is 75%.

i honestly do not understand why RAI continues to fall. i believe the share price belongs around $45. they are tobacco and are in good position vs STSI. surprise earnings, and they will succeed even with upward moving taxes. from how i see it there were a lot of puts bought and these group of investors are manipulating the share price downwards. when this happens, it doesn't matter what the company is, its going down.
