Government isn't going to raise rates and sink the banks... so RF will live to fight another day until its acquired or liquidated.

Just purchased this stock in my portfolio and feel that it hasn't reacted to the market as much as it should in the past few months and I feel it has a lot of upside potential

RF is a large bank that is very integrated with the community. Most long standing customers will stay with the company throughout this downturn. The housing industry is poised to turn up and will lead the way for Regions Bank's recovery.

I'll let these people do it for me. The S&P is low risk takers for the most part - Look at LVS - they give them 3 stars - and the stock has gained 230% YTD.

Anyway - the S&P gives RJ 4 stars.

At a Barclay's investor conference today, RF's CEO C. Down Ritter said the company does not need to raise additional capital. We concur with his statement as with a 6.5% tangible common equity ratio, we think RF is adequately capitalized.

A strong regional bank. I discount the gloomy ones who say that this stock is overvalued. It will work out the bad loans in its portfolio.

It will grow over the next few years. They are in some bad markets, but many more good ones.

The stock missed out the financial sector rally during the second quarter of 2009. RF's fundamentals are not as bad as other financial institutions whose stocks have outperform S&P500 during the past six month. It's just a matter of time... I sense that adjustment period is coming soon. RF will bounce back and outpace S&P500 and the rest of the financial sector.

Why did Henry Paulson buy 56 million or so shares of Regions? He must have a good reason to buy.

Paulson hedge fund pick. A lot of financials are grossly undervalued currently. BAC, RF, and C are some just to name a few.

I took a small position yesterday until earnings come out. Depending on what happens after that, I will adjust my position accordingly. If for some reason it "rockets" (unlikely), I will take my profits and buy back in later. If it "drops like a lead balloon", I will probably double down and watch it for a while. As with most banks today, it is "all about the economy stupid", and while it will take time for them to recover and pay off. Buying while they are down is the only way to make a meaningful profit. If and when we get back to "normal times", most banks will just become dividend plays with a slight upside. Diversity is the name of the game, but with a proper allocation of funds mixed between "traditional" dividend stocks that pay to hold them until things get better ( that is assuming they ever do), some with intermediate moderate upsides, longer term fairly certain good gains, and a "smattering" of semi-speculative stocks. After taking a tax loss on Siri last year, I am still kicking myself for not putting at least some money back in when it was 5 cents a share. I could have made an 800% profit in a few weeks without risking much. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Just make sure you win more often then you lose.

This stock has taken a long ride to the bottom. However much of the toxic mortgage numbers are already written off and the franchise is growing in a high growth potential part of the country. There is a lot of pent up demand building throughout the country so the short term may be bumpy but down the road a piece this bank will be flying high again. I'd like to see C. D. Ritter take a hike, but I think the bones of the outfit are good despite his incompetence.

regional bank with potential for great income based on franchise. Loan writeoffs are done with. Management is superior to other regional southeast franchises. Stock will be at 15 p/s in one year and then nice dividend will come back. Tarp money will be paid back. You can count on it.

If we knew where Dowd Ritter and his family were spending their July 4 holiday celebrations we would double down short or long!
We do not so we will place our bets according to the Federal Reserve interest rate party instead.....long...with options.

Time will tell how profitable this POS will be....

Priceless when $17,700 of the $396,396,172,916 money spent makes the newspapers front page and Cramers #1 wall of shame!
