As the second largest waste management company in the United States, Republic Services operates over 200 landfills and 70 recycling centers. The company has approximately 13 million customers in 40 states. It maintains consistent growth forecasts with solid earnings reports, and thus, deserves consideration from any growth-oriented investor.

Can't believe I forgot to rate this in CAPS when I was buying the stock hand-over-fist in real life. If I had to put all my money in a single company right now without touching it for the rest of my life, I'd probably choose RSG. Buffett can have his WFC, I'll take Republic Services. This is one to buy now and pass onto your grandchildren. Even better in the teens, but this is still a wonderful company at a better-than-fair price.

I think inorganic growth is usually bad in the long term. Nobody knows what kind of profits will shake out of the combined company. But we can be fairly sure RSG is not growing much going forward, since they already have a huge market share of this mature sector and have a lot to digest.
