China, the European Union and the US have created a perfect storm for a rising US dollar, but the basis for this rise is not an improving US economy but fear that the euro will fall further, that China will spend less and most irrationally that the US government will learn fiscal responsibility in 2010. As a pessimistic bear in sheep's clothing I can't help but feel that I've seen this before, like in the fall of 2008. Within a year after that massive commodity sell off, those metals and miners had beat everything except the most speculative financial stocks. I do hold on to my optimistic view that commodities and gold will again be recognized as elements of real value. SA, NGD and TGB all hit my real life limit order price before floating back up. There may be more down days ahead as the sell off may extend into March, but if I'm right about the replay of history, the only thing I really have to worry about is how much I get to keep after being fleeced by taxes.
