Inverter manufacturers have been hit hard by the lack of sufficient sales of Solar panels. This company is ramping up materials production in anticipation of increased sales in the next year or so. I like green tech stocks & now is a good time to buy as market conditions have deflated stock values.

They provide a much needed product. They reinvested heavely. The payoff will be great on this one.

The following from http://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/satcons-record-q2-solar-inverter-revenues-and-margins/ sums it up:

“Second quarter sales of $27.6 million represented the largest quarter in Satcon’s history, reaching revenues over two and a half times greater than what we reported in the same period a year ago,” said Rhoades. “We also grew gross margin to 21 percent, a significant improvement over last quarter’s 14 percent, fueled by the transfer of our primary manufacturing to our lower cost facility in Shenzhen, China, which we completed during the second quarter.”

Bookings for the first half of 2010 totaled $123 million -- 506 megawatts of orders for Satcon’s products, with 39 percent of that demand coming from North America, 25 percent from Europe and 36 percent from Asia Pacific.

That works out to $0.243 per watt for large-scale inverters.

As of June 30, 2010, the company's backlog was $82 million -- 43 percent from Asia, 42 percent from North America with 15 percent from Europe. Backlog as of August 3, 2010 totaled $111 million, of which about 90 percent is currently expected to ship this calendar year.

Speculative however creates a component vital to converting alternative energy like solar and wind into usable energy. Used by Chevron, ConEd and a few others but need more good news to convince me to put real money into this one.

This stock has remained under the radar of big institutional investors. The fundamentals seem to be right and the product portfolio of the company is solid. It is going to be akey player in the renewable energy sector.

By 2020 20% of our nations energy supply will come from solar power. As we ween ourselves off of oil and stop depending on others for fuel solar will come big into play. jump on the solar wagon now. (in at $2.44)

SatCon is on the promising side of Solar and Wind Energy play. A couple of huge points.

1. SatCon has historically had profitability problems. However, the company has a new CEO in play that recently took a business from $2 a share to $20 a share. He knows how to run a profitable business. They have already been making cost cutting decisions. Look at recent SEC filings to see that they have shown high paid execs the door.

2. Tontine Capital Management and Jeffrey Gendell have bolstered their position in this stock to 8.8%. Take a look at XIDE and BWEN and others this billionaire has invested in. Oh yeah, he will buy more and be involved in this businesses dealings.

3. Huge order from Spain on their new inverter technology (industry leading by a long shot) - more to come on this below.

4. Are at the right place at the right time. Great things to come.

Objection 1: We don't have any details on the Spain order. First, here is a link to affordable-Solar.com with a few SATCON price sheets. http://www.affordable-solar.com/satcon.ae.500.60.pv.a.g.c.htm

Each 500kw units sell for around $275,000 dollars through a reseller. I think the units sold to spain are the latest and greatest, so they probably cost more. However, let's take this price. Cost for hardware for the 20 units is about $5,435,900.

I have not idea what the costs of the additional array combiner boxes and combiner software, plus engineering services would be, but that is probably a nice chunk of change too.

I would guess the overall price Tag probably $6 - $7 million.

Considering this company did $56 million roughly last year, $15 million first quarter this year, I would say this gives them a pretty strong running head start at this quarters number, and the year in general.

One would think that it would not be unreasonable to have many more orders just like this coming in the months ahead not only from Spain, but from many others preparing for the future of Solar and Wind.

So cut unneeded expenses - which is already happening as we can see in recent SEC filings, and grow top line revenue, and you get what? Oh yeah, a very profitable business. Take a look who just acquired over 8% - Jeffrey Gendell his tortine investment groups (will he buy more....). Not a bad person to have on the long side of this stock. Look what happened with XIDE and BWEN and the many others.

Gotta love where SATC is sitting right now.
