When the overly optimistic FOMC says that household spending will be "constrained" by sluggish income growth, ongoing job losses, lower household wealth, and tight credit AND Shanghai stocks hit a seven-week low, then you know this bear market rally is finally over!

Their new bar concept might make for an interesting element to Starbucks

Never been a fan of expensive coffee that isnt that great. Starbucks to me is a fad coffee shop that will feel more of the recession once more unemployment numbers come out, and I feel as if we will see correction in the market 47% in 145 days a little to soon to fast.

The 1929-1930 equity rally (coming out of The Great Depression) lasted 147 days and the market was up 46%. It has been the same amount of time since the March, 2009 low and we are up about the same percentage. It’s déjà vu (paramnesia), so prepare for a drop of about the same percentage (85%).

Ah, coffee! Any company with such great customer service will always succeed.

International expansion still provides plenty of growth. New instant coffees will help defend against McLatte.

I sold Starbucks!
I think MC Donald is killing them with the new coffee offerings.
Was on a road trip last week, nearly each excite on the highway has a MC Donald, with a specialty brew, the price is not bad either. I got an espresso for $0.25 but I do not know if that was a mistake.

Someday starbucks will be a punchline. "Hey did you see that guy who opened a ton of stores selling very common but overpriced items?! Oh my god, what a Starbucks! hahaha"

The worst this one can do is double on me from here, and it'd take a WHILE.
Yesterday's surge will likely be sold off. Expect to get out ~15 within a few weeks.
Recs
The recession is not nearly over yet which will hurt existing sales. But more importantly, Starbucks has lost the cool cache it had several years back, and other coffee houses make better coffee (e.g. CC) which will gradually erode their market. Finally a P/E of ~150!
Recs
I like the company, but honestly, can you justify that P/E ratio in this economy? Their earnings beat by one penny... that explains a 15% move today. Yeah. Sure it does.
Recs
With a p/e of 38 both coffee drinkers and investors should be weary. Either the denominator (earnings) significantly increase or the numerator (stock price) will have to come down to bring the p/e back in line with the market. Clearly this is not a growth story so it does not deserve a p/e above 25.

Great Q and the outlook is fanstastic. I belive we have much more upside to our stock.Good LuCk all!

In a depression people will not be able to afford $5 for a cup of coffee.
