company got beaten down from 40 on BK concerns, however company made bid for CORUS assets which tells me things are not as dire as some might think. If company can survive it's a five bagger!

I purchased iStar initially at $23.25 per share (2/11/08) because it looked with a high dividend (yes, I'm a dividend chaser). The NAV came down a little after they made an $0.87 p/share dividend so I was enticed to purchase more shares (sucker), [5/19/08]. Of course, since then, I've seen it go below $1.00. Recently there has been a rally and a lot of talk on the market scene. I beleive that buyers will not get burned now but also think it will not see the $20.00+ for many months if not years. The short-term traders are capitalizing on this stock (short, long, etc), so I don't see much gain AND NO MORE DIVIDENDS FOR AWHILE!

Finance and commercial real estate. Heard that song before. Too small to stay in business when things worsen.

this is a 5year hold to sell at 40+ a profit of more than 1000+%. why is it good to buy now. look at all other financials that lived through the worst.

Speculative indeed. The little grower that could. The recession almost conquered this little fellow but it still didn't tap out and now it has nowhere to go but up now that the real estate and banking sectors have both bottomed. Come on $5.00

Positives: Stock is selling at 0.12 P/BV ratio; Trading for less than the cash on the books
Negatives: They operate in the commercial real estate space. Also, there is an enormous amount of debt on the books for a company of this size.

Wish I had jumped into this one a little sooner, but as things pick up and dividend returns, I think SFI is going to move up nicely.

In the second or third Q, the Non Perfoming Loans, will peak and CRE market will stop falling. After that the only way for this stock is up. With Book value around $20 x stock, it could easily reach that price, especially the moment dividend is restored. ( I guess in 2010 second Quarter)
I only wish I had Bought more prefereds at ridiculous low prices so i could be retiring by next year.

Hard market and this company is having a hard time managing its income. Its projected sales growth for next few quarters is looking more and more like a black hole. I the the mortgage industry picking up very slowly. The survivors in this industry are the ones who manage their liabilities the best, and also the ones who produce the most income as quickly as possible. A company like this needs to make wise choices.

The company has secured its lines of credit for the next 2 years and seems to have a handle on its loan provisions and losses. Should this be true, the company will resume paying dividends, and based on being a REIT, will be forced to pay large dividends in relation to the current price (about 100% annually) when it regains its strength. When the dividends resume, the price will soar. This may be a year or two, but when it happens, it will be spectacular. I want to be on board when this happens.
