To me Sears seems to be doing better. It's a stable old company.

I'm not giving up on it!!

ESL will not let this one slip. Company will either turn around or be liquidated, land sold and brands marketed through other channels (other retail or online). Situation has been compared to Berkshire when Buffett bought it- company made good stuff, had great employees but simply could no longer compete (in the case of Berkshire low cost overseas competitors, in the case of SHLD a perception as your Dad's retailer and not as hip as a BBY or HD). SHLD let the big box boys pull the carpet right out from under them just like Montgomery Ward. What I think you will see though is that this thing has a market cap far lower than the value of just the land holdings, let along the brands.

This company is well known for quality items, low prices, constant sales and easy credit. It carries everything a consumer could want or need from appliances to electronics to clothing for all ages. This stock will outperform however not by a large margain.

In Lampert I trust. That and the holdings include lots of valuable brands whose value can be tapped.

Sears is on its way out. How often do you shop there? Do you ever see any customers?

Real estate is fine in a growing economy where retailers are tripping over themselves for space, but when its value drops and you are not making any money or are growing sales in retail, you are doomed to hard times. They may not last long enough to survive this turndown..

Descending triangle has just resulted in a quick underperform. In addition, SEARS has been a consistent underperformer for the last two years.

It's an Eddie asset play, clearly. He'll probably continue to use cash flow to pay down debt and buy back stock as long as he can. I think it's clear by now he's not interested in reviving the stores. The business will be brands and real estate development. Brands will be sold through the surviving retailers. Pabrai and Berkowitz are along for the ride. So am I. Don't bet against people like Eddie over the long run.

I expect management to begin to sell off the vast real estate holdings of Sears to unlock the value of the balance sheet. Retail side has been a big disappointment. What do they expect when they don't advertise???

This company will continue to dominate in appliance sales as hybrid lumber yard retailers loose market share in the rural communities of America and abroad!
