SIGA Technologies, Inc. (SIGA)

CAPS Rating:
**

A bio-defense company engaged in the discovery, development and commercialization of products for use in defense against biological warfare agents such as Smallpox and Arenaviruses.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

This is why I have love this stock and have been following it for a year now.

In a conference call on the 15th of November, SIGA's spokesperson mentioned the expectation for a $100,000,000 order from BARDA (Project Bioshield), and that that order would not be the last order, but the first in a series of orders.

SIGA has about 33,000,000 shares outstanding, so on a basic level that 100 million would mean about $3.30 per share. Based on this contract alone, SIGA will be valued at about $25-40 per share. Based on other contracts that are pending, such as Department of Defense and international sales, share price could EASILY exceed this estimate, possibly as early as 2008. Also, the company is in a EXTREMELY healthy position to be acquired by a large biotech or pharm.

SIGA is one of my core long-term small cap holdings!

They already cured a child infected from a soldier's vaccine when all FDA approved products failed and the boy was close to death. Thier anti viral ST-246 eradicated the virus and the near death child has been fully recovered, thus under the Homeland Security emergency act will oplace an order for millions of doses to treat people who are contra indicated for the vaccine and anyone who has an adverse reaction to the vaccine. ST-246 can also be used instead of the vaccine to protect people if an oubreak occurs.

Once the small pox vaccine being developed by SIGA, get FDA approval, this stock will rock. Also this could be aquired by larger pharma in the vaccine field

This is why I have love this stock and have been following it for a year now.

1) SIGA-246, its smallpox vaccine, is the industry leading vaccine that is NOT made from a live virus (hence you cannot contract the virus).

2) SIGA-246 just passed its safety trials and its orphan drug status with the FDA, so the government can start stockpiling under Project Bioshield.

3) Project Bioshield allows for $1.65 Billion for U.S. stockpiles of the smallpox vaccine by 2013.

4) SIGA-246 was actually given to a two year old boy who contacted a derivative of smallpox from his father who is in the Army and was recently vaccinated. The CDC thought so highly of SIGA-246 they allowed the boy to receive the drug. After two days he was out of intensive care. PR disaster for the Pentagon, but HUGE for SIGA.

I expect SIGA to reach $12-18 in the next 12 months after government contracts begin to roll in. Expect a buyout by a large Pharm. in the next 2-5 years.
