Canadian insures are in terms of global financials very cheap as compared to international counterparts. P/E running below 10 yet net income (profits) are expected to double next year therefore I think eventually stock will realign at higher prices to reflect strong earnings.

When the overly optimistic FOMC says that household spending will be "constrained" by sluggish income growth, ongoing job losses, lower household wealth, and tight credit AND Shanghai stocks hit a seven-week low, then you know this bear market rally is finally over!

The 1929-1930 equity rally (coming out of The Great Depression) lasted 147 days and the market was up 46%. It has been the same amount of time since the March, 2009 low and we are up about the same percentage. It’s déjà vu (paramnesia), so prepare for a drop of about the same percentage (85%).

This stock was chosen as part of a group of stocks based upon criteria which focused heavily on dividend yield, cash flow, and balance sheet information.

Those who are hoping for a recovery will be disappointed. Sell early sell often

solid financials

Not too sunny for these guys recently; recently impacted by large hit on WAMU bonds, but expect when credit markets clear within next year the stock should rebound; attractive dividend - probably value around $25 for new investors with 3-5 year investor types.

Again, good companies are being throttled in this financial crisis...

Life insurance will never go out of style. Well run company with long history of financial health.

With new interests in China and strong management, SLF is a great company.
Being the first foreign company to sell life insurance in China is a big thing. They will establish their name as a brand before all others.

I'm sold from previous pitches, I like Sun Life Financials because it's a diversified financial services company.
I also like that they service to individuals and corporate customers in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia.

Solid company. The dividend should be a nice source of income when I retire in 15 years.

As with all my picks: A very attractive P/E, excellent EPS growth rate and high five year growth prospects.

Reasonably large company, with goodwill made over long years, discreet expansion plan in place where market is about to take off and nearly one third of humanity is potential customer.

Looks like a bounce off the floor could occur here. Also the price should benefit from a short, retrospective recession. Negatives: Their debt increased substantially (doubled) in 2007, and I have to wonder how much of that is CDO/MBS which does come up in their 10K, though the exposure seems to be to investors through, not to sun life? Can anyone confirm this? I like Canadian financials for the mid term, so this goes with my picks of BNS and TD.

Well if I had a bunch of money I would buy Sun Life because it is consistant. Good dividend, never any big surprises and exposure to China without any real downside there.

SLF has a strong balance sheet and has been paying/increasing dividends for the past several years. SLF has a low debt/equity ratio, a good ROE, a reasonable net profit margin, and a has a strong presence in the USA. SLF is beginningto have a strong presence in both China and India, where it is expecting strong growth in these countries as their economies continue growing stronger and their people begin purchasing financial/insurance products.

Good entry point in a high growth market
