Too many people can't afford that gold after being crushed. Used in many applications. I like Copper, as well, as a way into the solar plays. The newest technologies for binding layered solar cells into roofing is already backed by major corporations and co-ops in Europe, it will be ready by 2011-12. They will also require materials many have not traded heavily, yet. For now, SLV, later, take the profits and look for those materials that win the great debate.

The US Dollar is doomed. We are looking at hyper-inflation soon.

Money supply just increased significantly (at least $2 trillion) in the last two months. Silver and gold will rise as a result of inflation.

Metals are artificially held down as paper fiat currencies careen towards the abyss. Truth will out.

With the growing discrepancy between the physical and the paper market in silver I see a real opportunity to make some money. While the price of paper silver has been taking quite a beating the last few months the physical market has continued to look very healthy. Many retailers in the physical market have been selling at 8-10 % over spot price to keep up with the demand. Take advantage of the arbitrage between these two markets now because we won't see silver at these prices again for a long time. If ever.

With poor economy and huge govt debt, should do very well over the coming year. Silver should increase in value faster than gold.

agree with analysts.. this is priced too good to be true. 35:1 ratio at normal and right now we are way below that.

Silver cannot go down much longer. It has more industrial uses than gold, and so that makes it even more valuble. (Not that I don't think gold is valuble, I do.)

Massive deleverging=deflation

Central banks printing money=inflation

What happens to the money supply when banks decide to releverage?

Other perks: cheap relative to gold, and like everything else right now. . . beat up

Have you tried to buy real silver lately? Check out Kitco, Monex or any of the other large sellers of silver. Silver bullion is sold out as is gold. All metals in my opinion (except for gold) are on sale right now. Platinum and Palladium especially. (Someone please let me know of a platinum ETF as I would invest in a heartbeat).

I currently have almost 50% of my retirement portfolio invested in SLV! As others have mentioned Silver is a useful industrial metal which gets used up and is gone forever. Most of the silver mined is used up, whereas the vast majority of gold still exists. As someone else mentioned the feds are printing money as fast as they can. The value of the dollar goes down with each one they print. Our currency is plummeting against other world currencies. Most people can afford to purchase several ounces of silver no matter what their income. Gold and Platinum can only be purchased by the rich and middle class however.

On a side note, if you can afford it, I would strongly recommend buying platinum eagle coins. They are scarce and made of metal at least 10 times rarer than gold. A fair price is about 1-1/2 to 2 times spot price in MS 69 or 70.

Should be extremely volatile in the short-term, but when (if?) we emerge from the current crisis and global slow-down, I expect the metals to rally. We are fighting a deflationary environment with inflationary policies, so it may take several years for this pick to pan out. Regardless, I opened a small position today.
