I've seen Sony contiuously underperform in comparison to tech/gaming tech companies. They are not a quality company, no good marketing, no good products, no good customer service, etc... whose with me?

They'll be losing money on each PS3 console sold. How is that possible when the machine costs like 200 weeks of my allowance? My parents need to give me a raise...

Also heard news of the new Walkman. Yes, it's time again for another misuse of the cliche "iPod Killer." The new walkman costs considerably more than an iPod per GB of memory.

Playstation 3, Blu-Ray Disc. Need I say more? All these are technologies and systems that will come into more of a mainstream view in the next few years. Although the Sony Ericsson is currenly under heat from AAPL, I believe Sony will update and be able to compete.

Things are constantly on the move for SNE but good news is that their biggest earner (PlayStation) has now launced in it's third generation and bound to start making money for them. 1 year might be a bit tight for the business model to make a profit but eventually it will...

Sony's PS3 will not be able to compete with Microsofts Xbox 360 this holiday season because it is priced to high for the regular consumer and for the fact that Sony's Blu-ray technology is slightly inferior to Microsofts HD DVD player that is going to be added onto the Xbox 360.

The PS3 comes out this Friday in NA. The 100,000 JAP units sold out instantaneously. Quite obviously the same will happen in NA. 500,000 units x $550 US average (average is higher, but for arguments sake, we'll say $550) = $275 mil US Add on top of that, the new Sony Pictures 007 movie Casino Royale. The last Bond, Die Another Day, ended up grossing $430 mil US. But, you may be thinking: "What about the rumoured loss per console sold due to unprecedented production costs?" Remember, fellow investors, last year around Nov. 22nd, Microsoft's Xbox 360 launch? They also posted a loss for every console sold due to production costs. They ended up fine, even though the 360 did horrendously bad in the JAP market. Consider that, plus the fact that the PS3 is available in MORE supply than the 360 was, and it looks like Sony may still come out in the green despite its current slip.

Sony (SNE) continues to improve and be innovative in releasing new and improved models of digital camera’s, video cameras and computers. Their VAIO laptop has done well in Consumer Report ratings, but hasn’t either been evaluated or wasn’t in the top 5 in PC World ratings and reviews. I continue to be impressed with the number of options available to the photography amateur and professional alike with Sony offerings and with their recent release of the PlayStation Personal (PSP) and improvements with the
3rd generation Play Station gaming systems, they have proven to be a prolific and dependable resource for consumer electronics.

Way too many problems in the short term and also a lot of problems that will have long term ramifications.

Let's look here:

PS3 delays
Monstrous batter recall
Lagging computer sales
Market loss in electronics
Decline in quality music & games
Blue ray poised to be the next beta max

Need I go on?

Gaming division gathering momentum world-wide and profitable. Gathering momentum and a number of huge titles will push this far beyond Microsoft's offerings. This stock will bounce back with or without the US consumer.

Sony is a revolutionary company that has invaded the eletronics industry with a product line that is matched by few. Not only does it has a strong hold on the computer industry with it's reliable desktops and laptops, but it is also a top 3 contender in the video game industry with its' PSP and PS3. I dont see Sony going anywhere but up in the coming years.

with the recalling of batteries to delays in the new playstation and lowering the prices in japan I think that SNE is headed lower. I think that the bad news continues with the playstation and i dont think that it will do well compard to the x box 360 because of all the delays consumers might be less likely to wait and just buy an x box instead.

Sony has diversified so much its lines of products and services in the recent years that it seems it does not know where the North is anymore. They concentrated on quick expansion but they forgot efficiency. Many other companies today offer top quality competitive products. And, what about the PS3 console? Well, sell may start relatively well (given the initial small number produced and shipped to the market) but gamers and developers (specially, indies) have started to look into other raising stars, like the MS's Xbox360 (with a big bet on casual games and "indies") and Nintendo's Wii (with a strong bet on the new type of controller).

Sony is being punished for the US bad economy. Some of this is justified but not by the hugh amount it has been. Recent market move to support SONY's format of DVD movies will also help substantially in next 2 years. Buy valued stock now at a good discount.

Disclamer: I do not have a position in this stock.

The biggest driver at SNE is clearly PlayStation 3. Even though there have been some bugs in early shipments, the overall reviews have been positive. There is no reason to doubt that PlayStation's gaming dominance won't continue. The benifit of a smooth PlayStation 3 rollout are huge. It wil gives SNE a multi-year product cycle to ride. On top of this, SNE's ongoing restructuring efforts - which include cutting $1.5 to $2.0 billion in costs and divesting over $1.5 billion in non-core assets - should begin to benifit the bottom line over the next several quarters. Any potential benefits from Blu Ray would be gravy.

Electronics will make money and slowly but surely become cool again.
Movies will have a number of blockbusters which will also make money
Ericsson is fast becoming a highly profitable franchise
Blu-Ray will win the format war with HD DVD because PS3 will drive the volume
High Definition will become the future of TV
