HouseValues, Inc. (SOLD)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company provides a comprehensive set of marketing and business management tools designed to help real estate professionals increase its productivity and income.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

With the housing slump, this may take awhile to see positive returns. However, after you take out the cash, the market cap of this thing is around $55 million.

With as much cash as they have they look to be a takeover target or may be able to buy some of the competion on the cheap (wi...More

One Word: Bankruptcy! This company is going nowhere fast. Like many real estate business models that work great in a fast moving market, this one is dead in the water now that the market has normalized. The suite of services, most significant of which is sale of prospective buyer and seller leads, is worth much less to agents than it would cost these agents to generate themselves. This is/was a fad business model that appears to be unable to adjust to the changed market. Unless the company can think of a completely new way of repositioning itself, it is just a matter of time before subscription reductions overpower the staffing cuts.

no way this sector out performs the market, an argument could be made for shorting almost the entire sector. Cramer advises buying puts on about every mortgage and housing play out there. But at the very least will underperofm the market.

Subprime iproblems are working up to Alt-A, market is in shambles and ppl still havent seen how far up the scale the problems are giogn to go.

Problems for real estate are giong to be huge, even if you are trying ot find the one or 2 that will withstand the blasting the market itself will overperform this real estate glut that is appraching for 2 years

Weak market environment for Housevalues. Expect the stock to underperform broader market over the near term.

More and more realestate companies are offering these types of services through their own web sites. I think this company is going to loose it's customers.

This Turkey is going to go down in flames. Luckily, I bailed out with just my shorts.

Beat this Stock

Clicking "Beat this Stock!" will bring you to a company with a higher rating than the one you're currently viewing.

That is, until there is a new No. 1 stock!
