Apparently Sequenom's reported success for non-invasive prenatal testing was based on improperly supervised studies. Now no one at the company is willing to guarantee success, but management is willing to say that they still believe in the science. The current Directors and Officers seem to be reputable experts in their fields and they do not seem to be con artists. Based on the people involved, the theoretical underpinings and on the promising (but suspect) data delivered so far, I believe that Sequenem has a better than even chance of eventually commercializing its tests (or or selling itself to a larger player). If the tests are indeed viable, this company will be worth billions compared to its current market cap of $200 million. In summary, I think reward outweights risk in this highly speculative stock that is currently trading at 1.8 times book value (which is 85% off its all time high).

Totally based on the chart (right around $3 looks like support), and the thought "how much worse could it get?" Lies? Fraud? Ousted execs?

I am gambling with this one. I am hoping the mishandlings in the T21 test were due to incompetant oversite, rather than inadequate science. I try to be the buyer of bad news, however I am having great difficulty pulling th tricker on this one.

Go SQNM and please make a commercially non-viable prenatal down syndrom test and make me out to look like a genius as your stock price skyrockets into the deep $30s

SQNM has the umbrella patent on using ccffDNA and ccffRNA for prenatal diagnostics whenever the method involves PCR. Their method is also the most cost-effective and efficient.

All they need to do is to tweak the DS test to cover variability in gene expression for the RNA test and tweak the DNA test and they are back to $20. Easy 10-bagger.

Speculation that their non-invasive gene test for Down's syndrome will be launched in 2010.

from their website:

Sequenom’s technology, SEQureDxTM, is based on the work of Professor Dennis Lo, and isolates and analyzes circulating fetal nucleic acid from a maternal blood sample. The technology has particular promise for developing new, non-invasive tests for fetal gene and chromosome abnormalities such as RhD, fetal sex determination and Trisomy - including trisomy 21 (View selected publications relating to noninvasive prenatal diagnostic technology). Through key partnerships with genetic testing laboratories, the first test using SEQureDx technology, fetal RhD, became available in 2007.

By applying our novel technology to frequently encountered diagnostic problems in pregnancy and reproduction, Sequenom believes it can create a new standard of care to assist women, their families and their physicians with better tools to achieve the best pregnancy outcomes.

For years, doctors have used tests such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus to determine the health of a fetus.

The introduction of Sequenom’s Fetal Nucleic Acid Technology has the potential to be the long-sought-after alternative to these common procedures. That’s because the Sequenom technology is both non-invasive, thereby posing no risk to the baby, and has the possibility to be performed earlier in the pregnancy. Early diagnosis is important because it can help doctors to identify patients at risk sooner and provide treatment where possible.

I simply used the screener to find all of the 5 star stocks with the greatest 52-week losses. 5 stars should make them good picks and the high 52-week loss should make them cheap. We’ll see how it works!

The trisomy 21 ,down's is one among several tests feasible with thei
platform. They are planing several tests like fetal Rh tests
The science is true. This is going to be a multi bager.

Their science is sound, despite questions about their trisomy screen. Dont take my word for it, take the word of the 170 other papers published based off their platform. No questions on their HPV screen, though. Which, btw, is more accurate & more specific with fewer false negatives & fewer false positives than current standard of care. a 3.6B market. yeah, no one talks about that. Too scared about that trisomy data still? You can all be scared, this is a 5 bagger in 2 years, even if one of these fails.
