I think SSYS is smarter about acquisitions and protects its brand better than its competitors.

SSYS has already announced very slim margins and will likely not produce a profit in 2014 as expenses are beginning to balloon.

Just optimistic about the reality that 3d printing has become, although this is an older technology.

In my view Stratasys represents the Xerox copy machine of things. You would not buy a Xerox machine for your home as it would be too expensive for the task, but for a business the economies of scale work in it's favor.

Emerging technology, one of the leading companies. I bet one of the big boys will buy it out by the end of 2014. This has been a major hodling in my portfolio since January 2013. even without a buyout, i believe in this company and technology.

In an industry group that looks like it should outperform. Less complexly organized than its most important competitor.

- Huge market opportunity for 3DP, which could reach $10.8 billion by 2021. Current sales of 3D printers are a small fraction of the total CapEx spend in the markets they are selling to.
- Stratasys appeals to several segments of the market. They reach consumers through their Idea series and the Makerbot acquisition, but also appeal to higher-end industrial customers through their Production Series and the Objet line. They're the perfect mix of appealing to multiple customer segments, but also not spreading themselves too thin.
- Watch for the recurring revenue model to be even more important in the future. Sales in aggregate in 3DP are 40% from consumables and 25% from service. Establishing a large installed base early, as Stratasys has done, will pay dividends for them in the future.
- Chairman Scott Crump patented fused deposition modeling and co-founded Stratasys with his wife in 1989. I love it when co-founders remain engaged in the business decades later.

I fully expect this stock to bounce around in the near-term. But over a 5 year + time frame, Stratasys is a clear winner.
