Gotta take a foreign national bank Banco Santander is heavy into SA and not nearly as subject to credit risks as the US banks.
Recs
Santander is a strong, world-wide bank with exposure to Europe and Latin America. Recent aquisitions give it a very strong position in Brazil, which has a growing economic presence in the world. Exposure to any single Latin American country can prove risky, however, Santander has a strong presence in nearly all of them. They don't call them "emerging" markets for nothing, but for those with a tolerance for risk, Santander makes an interesting pick.
Recs
Slow and steady
Recs
One of the most consensual bank for 2008. The worldwide operations and the good exposure to Latin America markets are some of reasons that explain this bet.
Recs
Large int'l bank selling cheap. Will capitalize on South America housing boom but will not get caught doing what the US banks did. Sweet Dividend.

STD: Banco Santander is a Spanish bank with a huge presence everywhere except the USA.
As the bank sector comes back into play, STD will be on the first waves of popularity. This is a ten-bagger in the making.

I looked at it because of a Mad Money highlight, but it seems right on - they are in a great position to expand. The strong euro makes them much wealthier in the world market.
Recs
I have my acounts with them in mexico they have grown big in latin america

Spanish bank moved up the ranks of global finance giants.
Recs
Spain in particular in Europe, is flexing its financial muscle and is expanding intrnationally. Look for a 20 % appreciation by first quarter '08.
Recs
one of the CAPS daily picks. Lots of outperform picks, and the trading is a bit below 20 day and 50 averages and above the 365 day average. 365 day average is consistantly going up. ABN to infuse some additional money into the company which should bring price up further.
Hang on to this one for about 20%-30% increase then let it go.
Recs
Bank consolidation if ABN merger successful
