as interest rates climb(and they absolutely will) this regional bank--coupled with its intense expense reduction program---will increase in value.

Major SE regional player at less than tangible book value. With the mortgage settlement quantified & that potential wild card settled, SunTrust is well positioned to move into fundamental metrics resembling those of its peers.

* has not fully recovered from the 08 crisis yet
* supports a fairly recession proof region (DC metro area, * sequestration overblown, even if there are deep gov cuts, it's the last thing in the the economy to suffer)
attractive valuation: historically low PE & PB

STI will be bought in 2011. 2010 earnings will be positive in late 2010. This stock is a double in 2 years.

High PE is not justified by growth prospects. Stock Price has outrun the rest of the market. Challenges remain in distressed geographical footprint in which they operate: particularly FL and GA markets.

Banks are creatures of the economy they operate in..plus or minus their management practices. I believe "their" economy was,is more depressed than the nation as a whole. As it recovers, it should outperform the general market as there is more upside to capture..

Financial stocks carry a P/E ratio of 22.4, and the so-called "recovery" has been especially strong in bank stocks. Therefore, I’m concentrating my shorting interest in the banking sector.
