+ Watch SWFT
on My Watchlist
lowering gas prices, recovery in trucking industry
Three words: freight rates, inter-modal & WalMart...that's at least 5 words but SWIFT is among the leaders in intermodal long haul, has a fat contract with WalMart in the Siouthwest; freight rates are going up and gas is going down. This, FDX & ODFL will rule while rail is stuck with corn, coal and bulk chemicals which are all underpriced
At this point (11/26/2013), I feel SWFT is fully valued, but will hold it as long as this uptrend appears to remain in place. Will be watching it closely and will close the pick when it drops 8%, either from its recent high of 23.45 (stop loss 21.53) or from any subsequent new high.
Swift is a well managed company that is an industry leader in training and hiring entry level drivers. This in itself gives them a bigger profit margin than many of their competitors as Swift drivers make less per mile on average than many other companies. With their extensive training program they always have a large pool of new drivers to begin making them money.
As the largest truckload carrier in the country it will have pricing leverage as the economy improves. Its entry into the intermodal business will help it deal with the lack of CSA qualified drivers.
Focusing on international expansion and premium services - best strategy ever!
Somebody's got to get that stuff there somehow. Huge fleet, good management.
Swift has discovered the secret of controlling more of the cost variables in trucking, allowing it to offer competitive trucking prices versus older competitors. One of Swift's biggest secrets is right next to you every time their trucks drive past you.....
Transportation will do very well for several years. With new regulations to be approved soon trucks will be able to haul more freight. More Income and less cost keeping tabs with fuel prices.I am long
