One word: ClearPad.
KeyPads are old and interfaces in consumer devices are desperately in need of an overhaul. It's like having a computer with just a keyboard and no mouse.
iPod clickwheel (supplied by Synaptics) showed that there was a better way to navigate than repeatedly pressing a button a dozen times over.
Similarly joysticks and navigation buttons on phones are outmoded as well. Using a touchscreen is a much faster and friendlier. Next time you use the joystick or navigation buttons on your phone think about how much better the experience would be if you could touch the screen to make your selection or scroll or use finger gestures.
Synaptics is a pioneer in this field. Check out their Onyx phone. They are most likely behind the LG Prada phone and might even power the iPhone. There's tremendous upside and very little downside.

As handheld and mobile devices offer more features, they inherently become more complicated to use. Light weight and miniturization offer less space for buttons and the like. This company has found a variety of ways around these growing problems. Although volitile, this company offers good fundamentals for the long term.
