This company has 'multiple offers' to buy all or part of the company announced roughly 50 days ago. Shares have been beaten down lately because of volatility in RIN market and the fact that the plant is not running and hasn't been for a long time. However, the reason it is currently closed is because they are in the process of evaluating offers. This company is dominating Neste in patent dispute litigation thus far. there is significant upside if they win out, but because of alternative uses for the plant, the downside is limited.
No dividends, pending litigation, operational issues with the plant, uncertain future.... All bad things.. but the market has accounted for that a few times over. This company has no real debt and a buyout offer for 50% share of Dynamic Fuels plant they own (other half is owned by TSN) will likely be greater than the current market cap of the company itself, and more details will likely be made public very soon. The longer it takes them to reveal details about this deal, the better it must be for them to continue to the the plant. (For the risk-averse... options just became available though trading is thin...Calls are pricey so a buy-write strategy may be a nice alternative to buying outright).

Syntroleum develops and markets synthetic fuels. Including diesel fuels, ehating oil, aviation fuels, lubricants, etc. BP believes biofuels will eventually make up 9 percent of the global energy mix. The IEA says biofuels couldplay a fundamental role in cutting carbon dioxide emissions from transportation. The IEA wants biofuels to grow from 2 percent of total transport fuel mix currently, to 27 percent by 2050. All of these factors could have huge potential for this company.
SYNM has a market cap of about $100 million making it a good candidate for acuisition. SYNM's recent secondary offering has piled shorts, and the recent insiders have purchased about 170,000 shares.

SYNM is on the verge of turning a consistent profit. With a 1.28 per gallon margin on biodiesel, this stock should yeild .40/share or more annually. If the tax credit doesn't get extended, RIN values will adjust to compensate.

Syntroleum has the first and only commercial biofuels refinery in North America.

Syntroleum has a joint venture with TYSON the world's largest meat producer.

Syntroleum's fuel has been tested routinely by the United States Air Force as they continue to transition their entire fleet to biofuels & synthetics by 2016.

Syntroleum will continue to benefit from rising RIN prices as well as a government tax credit for every gallon of fuel through 2011.

Prior to opening of new Dynamic Fuels facility in Geismar, LA Syntroleum never had a commerical viable product on the market.

Sinopec, the largest refiner and transport fuel in Asia, has adopted and is currenly licensing Syntroleum's GTL & CTL technology as biofuels.

Use of biofuels is on the rise and Syntroleum is the leader in commerical availability in North America.

Syntroleum is currently selling all the fuel that they produce with little to no market competition.

Syntroleum's Dynamic Fuels Venture and their technology produces what is considered by many to be the "Cleanest buring fuel on the plant".

Syntroleum's fuel is a drop-in renewable fuel that can be blended with the existing diesel fuels without requiring infrastructure changes.

I think a BIG year is in store for 2011. Syntroleum has the first commercial scale biofuels plant in North America and has a possible multi-billion dollar opportunity in China. I think the analysts have grossly underestimated the first full year of operations for the 75 million gallon facility in Geismar.

This company owns half of a 75 million gallon per year synthetic fuels plant that just became operational. They've been quoted that the process is cost effective without subsidy, but are eligible for the biofuel production tax credit congress just extended. Not to mention the advantage of excalating diesel prices...

Re-started my "outperform" rating after the recent dip to take advantage of the CAPS system.

Same reasons as before:

1. Geismar (La.) bio-synfining plant, which is part of Syntroleum's joint venture with Tyson Foods, is mechanically complete, and will be fully operational by Q3 2010. Once online it will produce up to 75 million gallons of summer-to-arctic-grade bio-diesel per year.

2. Government interest. Obama called for greater focus on renewable fuels and "green" technologies, and Syntroleum's process converts animal fats and greases to high-quality diesel and jet fuel. Additionally, the military has shown interest in Syntroleum's jet fuel, given its high-grade and quality. Aside from the fuels, the Dept. of Energy recently awarded Syntroleum a demonstration contract for "phase change" materials, which are used to regulate the temperature of buildings. These materials will also be produced at the Geismar facility, and, if successful, offer a very attractive return.

3. Increased emphasis on bio-diesel blend requirements. Argentina, Brazil, and several Canadian provinces have implemented bio-diesel mandates to blend the renewable fuels into diesel reserves. Syntroleum's process creates a high-quality summer-to-arctic-grade bio-diesel, which makes it a very competitive option, particularly in cold-weather climates.

4. Insider buying. The CEO and the Chairman have each made large purchases of SYNM's outstanding shares over the past two months. The stock is getting hammered right now for a weak Q2 report compared to last year, but if insiders are buying, that's a good sign that things are turning around.

I own this in RL, and continue to buy on dips below $1.60.

Syntroleum are converting waste into jet fuel. They are just completing their first bio refinery, licensing their fischer tropsch technology to china and planning future refineries. Once the first one is running they will see income. The fear of fossil fuel, the administration's drive for renewable fuels, the low cost of their raw materials and their ability to produce higher quality fuels than biodiesel are factors in their favor. As is their robust partnership with Tyson foods.

SYNM solves a societal/manufacturing problem and produces a valuable product. The problem is waste and disposal of animal bi-products, which is solved by reusing/converting to the product - jet fuel.

The state of LA has put a lot into SYNM; therefore, as far as the Company running into financial difficulties, the state's funding administrators are not likely to sit on their hands and watch the investment tank. When the plant gets ramped up later this year turning chicken fat into fuel, that's when the stock will rise so this is the time to buy. SYNM's clean fuel was tested in a USAF jet engine a year+ ago and burned like a champ. The AF has announced plans to replace jet fuel with bio fuels. That is one very enormous market! This is one stock that will soar and those who don't buy low will regret it. Happens all the time!
