AT&T, Inc. (T)

CAPS Rating:
****

A provider of telecommunications services in the United States and the world. The services and products that it offer vary by market, and include: local exchange services, long-distance services, data/broadband, Internet services etc.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

March 2, 2008 - T is at $34.83

T has a 4.5% dividend and Sprint in deep weeds. The only "real" competition is VZ. The $99 packages should only help T and VZ -- most of their customers don't hit this level anyway.

At&T, wihtout Apple would be stuck like Chuck on NBC not knowing what the next day is going to hold. Seriously, their volume has surged upon Apple's IPhone and that is not a bad thing, but the surge in stock price will catch up to them as the market saturates with product. Early summer I would exp...More

A good company with a plan. How extensive that plan is and how far based it's bases it's strategy against it's competition is yet to be send. Yet, their purchase of a very large block of spectrum show that they want to expand more into the wireless sector. With strong hints towards WiFi base internet on cell phones.

I strongly think that the days of portable computing and phones will reach the point soon where you will be able to carry your office in the palm of your hand for the average worker. Currently, that function is basically available for senior executives using Blackberries in major corporations and just like cell phone after ten years after their introduction, everyone else will be doing it because its "necessary".

How soon will you get to the point where you will be able to see first run movies on your hand held unit without the need of going to a theater and dealing with the crowded seating and parking lots? How soon before you can watch cable TV on your hand held (600 channels of nothing on) without worrying how to hookup all of the TV/VCR/DVD/Computer/Home Theater components to the cable connection.

It's all about communication and AT&T is about that in a big way. It's only a question of who will get there first: AT&T or Verizon.

Keep this one as a core for years. Solid growth, above average dividend payouts.

I got to meet the Group President over diversified business and is responsible for overseeing the company’s diversified businesses, including international investments, Sterling Commerce subsidiary, Advertising & Publishing, Operator Services and public coin phones.

While attending my Fiance's award trip to Vegas this past week. I have to say he is one of the more intelligent and yet down to earth people I have ever met. He is on top of his game and very approachable. I am calling it that if more Senior Executives are like this man then AT&T is going to be doing well for a while.

Also I heard that they were looking to consolidate some more leftovers from the Merger.
