A bit to much optimism is in the market with respect to AT&T. They are to big to show much growth. They still have much debt and they create a considerable negative cash flow by serving their dividend. They will lag in the coming upward move of the market.

Love the dividend and the company's moves to set up a bright future. Beat its 52 week high today. Not sure it will beat the market but looking for the DRIP to make up and performance shortfall.

AT&T's focus on content delivery across platforms will give them an advantage over competitors. The diversification into content ownership (with DirecTV purchase) should allow higher profit margins then some competitors.

I'm watching a group of 20 stocks that are predominately priced at or below fair value based on historic valuations. The portfolio has an above average starting yield of about 3.35% compared to the S&P 500's 1.95%. The portfolio is designed to replicate something I might choose in retirement in order to live off of dividends alone instead of share harvesting and was inspired by a series of articles by Chuck Carnevale . My goal is to not make any changes for at least 5 years unless a dividend is frozen, cut or, I see a golden opportunity that increases current income as well as offers a better than average chance at capital appreciation. The portfolio doesn't need to necessarily beat the market for me to be satisfied with it's performance but I expect it to competitive in both short and longer time horizons as well as generate a rising income stream.

See ya in 2020.

Verizon is too busy doubting its cell business and focused on cable de-bundling, slim bundling - what ever. Ma Bell should look good for the near term.

I would not bet against AT&T. The acquisition of television to their lineup will increase the bottom line.
