Ok, solar stuff has been hammered and real hard. My feeling is a little too hard but can't really determine which company to go with because everyone is holding on to their money at this time and not buying optional extras like solar for houses or buildings..... yet. So, when in doubt, find an ETF that trying to recover. I like the spread and global aspect within this ETF with a few known company names.

Catching a group of horribly sharp, consolidating, viciously competitive bunch of falling knives with very high inventory and crazy subisidy madness. Caveat emptor!

Solar energy has reached near grid parity in the southwestern U.S. during peak energy production periods due to significant increases in efficiency over the past five years. Efficiency continues to improve, production is becoming less costly and fossil fuels have stable to increasing costs by comparison. Over the next decade, regardless of government support, solar will move from a middle of the night infomercial to prime time, as solar makes market progress naturally. The Guggenheim Solar Energy Index ETF, TAN, is one of two great ways (Market Vectors Solar Energy : KWT) to have a concentrated position in solar as the sector outperforms from current price levels which are severely oversold (10% below 200 day moving average) on European debt concerns and industry consolidation.

Currently has a PE Ratio of 13. The companies in this etf have real earnings and reasonable valuations. With the solar energy sector expanding from here it seems like a no brainer to me although I am sure it will be a turbulent ride.

Solar is becoming cheaper while energy prices are scheduled to increase dramatically in the future. This means solar is becoming a more viable option each and every day. As the prices drop, it will create less demand for energy companies, thereby increasing price of energy. At the end of the day, we'll have 20 year loans for solar that will cost substantially less than the monthly cost of energy from your electric company and you'll own the system after your loan is repaid while zeroing out your energy bill. Additionally, coal and nuclear plants will become very old and will need to be replaced in the near future. The cost of replacing coal or other energy-producing plants is not cheap and this will cause energy prices to increase as well. Solar is here to stay, so get used to it.

China's move on currency has hit the solar market hard, but I believe that the reaction has been slightly exaggerated. TAN should make a small recovery in the short term. In the long term, solar energy will be boosted because of rising demand for alternative energy sources such as solar energy that will only be further boosted with the introduction of carbon-credits.

Running out of oil. Coal and natural gas will be gone soon and what will be left as an energy source?
