They have the best service in Canada. With the cash they generate, the problems of some other banks (e.g., nbc) and canada's growing economy, I see a good future for them. All of the wealthy profesionnals I know are going with them, yet the market does not seem to reflect that enthusiasm yet, and thats always a good sign to me.

Toronto-Dominion Bank (TDB) is a Canadian financial services provider with key operations in Canada and the United States. It offers retail & commercial banking, wealth management, and wholesale banking products & services. Bank provides full spectrum of financial products and services to nearly 11 million clients in Canada. In the U.S. the bank operates under TD Banknorth and services over 1.5 million households primarily in the Northeast.
In first quarter of fiscal 2007, reported strong earning per share growth of 18%, mainly owing to Canadian personal & commercial (P&C) banking and wealth management. Canadian personal and commercial banking business is heart of TDB’s operations with around 55% contribution to total revenues.
TDB’s diversified product portfolio gives it edge as underperformance of one or few products will not have great impact on earnings. Further, "one-stop shop" model also enables it to retain customers. In order to attract and retain customers focus on Canadian P&C business has increased with 31 new branches in 2006, thus boosting deposits. It differentiates itself from peers by focusing on customer service with initiatives such as extended branch hours and has a well- entrenched branch network that span all of Canada.
TDB entered US market in 2005, through purchasing majority stake in banknorth. Its decision keeping old management intact is turning to be good one. TD Ameritrade and VFC, inc. are also performing well and have been yielding positive results after acquisitions. In spite of multiple operations, TDB’s efficiency ratio is better than its peers in Canada. Its capital adequacy ratio is well positioned. Its net interest margin is slightly on lower side with around 2.1%.
Its strong product portfolio and expanded footprints is expected to contribute to further revenue growth and operating efficiency. The company’s decision to return capital to the shareholders in the form of dividends and share repurchases is expected to contribute to better performance of stock.

I have been a huge fan of TD ever since they merged with Canada Trust what, 10 years ago?
Plus, the fact that I have 2 TD bank accounts and do all my trading through TD Waterhouse doesn't hurt either..
I strongly feel that TD will follow in the steps of CM (CIBC).. I just wished I woulda got on this earlier.
Recs
undervalued with HUGE amounts of cash (cash on hand is equivalent to 239% of its market cap right now).

I believe this stock is underpriced. Good dividend, strong growth. Canada never experienced the same housing boom and risky lending practices that flourished south of the border. Also, the "TD" is the same as TD Ameritrade = fee based income.

well excuted business plan will continue to cut costs and increase revenue.

Canadian bank with great retail franchise-- earnings boost from BNK aquisition

Pretty agressive growth strategy into the US markets anchored by a strong Canadian bank.

The cheapest of the big 4 Canadian banks. If the US dollar continues to be weak, that would also help.

big bank....getting bigger regularly

Canadian banks rock because they continue to grow into foreign markets but have the base business as a solid base.
At some point they will be allowed to merge with other banks.

I was just recently invited to this CAPS board and joined yesterday 8/28/06, not understanding the scoring, etc.. That doesn't really matter anyway but if I were really competing for score, I may have delayed the addition of this stock for just a few days. Why? Because yesterday it hit its 52-week high and of course there is going to be some profit taking. When was the 52-week low you ask? Exactly 1 year ago! I guess it's been a a pretty steady rise all year... and it should be. It's nicely diversified throughout the financial services industries, it has strong revenues and decent margins and it's paying a 2.7% dividend. I like dividends, don't you?
Recs
Another big Canadian bank. These companies are perennial outperformers, even if CAPS doesn't include dividends yet.
