Two words: tax stimulus.

Retail is declining now, but will resurface. Also, with consumers looking to cut cost, bargain retailers benefit. Target has the quality/class edge of other major discount retailers and will be the focus of the middle class. Add in Target selling it's credit department and the stock is up for a big run soon.

My spending at target alone will make this stock go up!

With the economy and gas prices hitting record highs, people are shopping wiser. Walmart and Kmart are badly lit, aisles are crowded that it is difficult to manuever that Target has a real opportunity to capture a huge market of new shoppers to Target. I expect huge quarter profit increases for Target in the future if the economy continues to tank.

Charge-offs or not, I am one of the people who refuses to go into a Walmart (awful company....too much white trash in the store). Target is ALWAYS busy, they have cheaper groceries than the grocery store (which will be very important to people as the cost of food continues to rise), and I have always received good customer service. Over the long term , they will prevail.

Target credit card charge-offs are increasing to frightening amounts, and will continue to do so. Retailers are in bad shape, and Target is leading the way.
Recs
Target may not appear as recession proof as Walmart, but they provide better quality at near (and sometimes better) prices. Some people won't be caught dead in Wal-mart, but they will shop at Target for their bargains. Plus, they have a lot more room to grow, and in my opinion, great marketing. I'm buying Target because I'm sold on their stores.

It's ok to go under for a while

this stock is selling low, soon as consumer spending increases it will double your money

While this more or less goes against my belief in the devaluation of the U.S. dollar, and resultant dwindling economy, I am gonna go with my gut on this particular retail pick, as I think it has the potential to weather the storm for the reasons many have explained already -- low prices, trendy products... And the parking lot is always packed every time i go regardless of day or time.
Recs
Target is a good stock to own. It is a big discount store company and in times like these, with the slowing economy, increasing inflation, and low consumer confidence, people are less willing to spend money. This will drive people to stores like Target to find good deals on consumer goods.
Recs
Tough time for the country, we flee to buy our cheap stuff at WalMart and Target. Those of us that want slightly nicer products and a better experience go to Target when we can. Their image and brand are strong and expect to see earnings growth return and stock price to inch upward.

This stock should be doing very well as the summer season starts to make it so more people as comming out of their houses and getting outdoors.
Recs
Strong growth potential, macroeconomic issues today. Should do well long-term. Planning large stock buyback; operating margins are healthy.
Recs
I like them because they match my corporate philosophy of philanthropy which I think, in the long run, will continue to resinate amongst savvy consumer.

Everybody is flat broke these days because of the problems in our economy, gas prices, you name it. With less cash on hand, I believe more people are likely to save money by shopping at stores with the cheapest prices.

In Minnesota TGT is taking sales away from the grocery store chains and the Walgreens and Snyder Drug Stores with their Superstore format. The stores are big but not intimidating to shoppers. They keep their stores clean in comparison to Walmart and seem to have a more upscale client base.
Recs
Not only does TGT offer better quality products than does WMT, but it also has more of what I want. In the past 3 months, my wife and I have left WMT for TGT more times than I can remember.
I think of TGT in the same category as WMT and COST (even though I've never had the fortune of being in a COST), and TGT outshines that competition in a number of categories including gross & operating margins, lower forward P/E, and lower price/cash flow metrics (TGT=8.8x, WMT=9+x, COST=not even close).
All this on top of Bill Ackman being a much needed activist investor shaking things up with management should prove to be a good long position (not like CNBC long, which is about 72hrs. but more like Warren Buffett long = 5+ yrs.)
