I'm closer my outperform call on TGP and moving it over to TK. Both TGP and TOO, partnerships that TK is parent of, are in the 50% IDR tier and both are going to be growing considerably in the next 5 years. To do this, all of the entities will be taking on debt to some extent, but the daughter partnerships will also be issuing more units (dilution; and I expect to TGP it could be quite a lot, with their newbuild commitments). That's all fair and aboveboard -- perfectly normal for MLPs. I don't think a lot of investors new to the MLP scene realize, however, how mature partnerships like TGP and TOO will behave: half of the =increases= in cash flow will go directly to the parent, TK corporation, which does not necessarily face dilution. Last year's distribution increase for TGP was miniscule but the parent raked it in. From TK's annual report,

"...our two master limited partnerships increased their common unit distributions by 5.0 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, in 2013, which resulted in growth in the cash flows Teekay Parent based on its general partnership and limited partnership interests. With Teekay’s general partnership interests in Teekay Offshore and Teekay LNG now both in the 50 percent incentive distribution tier, these distribution increases at these daughter entities have resulted in an annualized increase to Teekay Parent’s combined general partnership and limited partnership cash flows of approximately $17.6 million, or 11 percent."

Yes, by GAAP accounting TK lost money last year (some of it due to non-cash, mark-to-market losses incurred by hedges). So how is it that over the last 12 months the stock has appreciated 46%? I think people are clueing in to the cash flows that lie ahead, and the fact that TK isn't just a tanker story.

I picked this stock because it is rated 10 by Stockscouter, it has a dividend and a beta computed by Yahoo Finance of more than 1.

Betting on a global economic recovery within 2010. Demand for energy and resources will first feel the effect than manufacturing and construction.

Current pitches are pretty old. Has a great dividend (not distribution like TGP and not having that hassel has value for me). Has ships that are small enough to be used to off-load from deep-drilling operations. Think they are reasonably positioned when it comes to double-hulls. The "overpriced" comment was from April of 2007 when it was around $52.

One of the biggest in the shipping area, has several subsidiaries, and a good reputation in the shipping business. Should benefit from consolidation in the shipping industry.

TK has plenty of small efficient ships. DRYS and EXM are currently just ordering them or building up their fleet of small ships.
When customers want efficiency, they call on TK.

I'm experimenting with a particular stock screen. Super low PE, PEG and P/B with a great growth rate makes this an attractive stock.

Unless our country starts cutting back on imported crude, this company will be greatly needed.
