When the new CU-ICAR officially opens in early 2008 Timken stock will soar. The automotive industry is looking for a place in America to research and test new auto innovations. CU-Icar is the place and Timken is a big part of that.

It's a good company, and with a certain amount of business in helicopters for the army they won't be going anywhere for a while

TKR produces bearings -- look for them to be major suppliers for the coming boom in wind energy. Those wind turbines need bearings.

Motley Fool Recommendation based on some purchases by outperforming small cap mutal funds. I just don't see it. Perhaps its the overall basic materials sector with screwy numbers but this company that makes alloys and specialty steel products has a crappy margins, ROE. Balance sheet is cash poor. They do have positive Free Cash flow. Ehhh, just doesn't speak to me. I'd sell it. I like TIE much better.

Timken is a specialized steel company that does one thing particularly well, and that is makes bearings and specific alloys for the automtive, and industrial sectors. Although auto sales have generally been stagnant for years, they have definitely leveled off and all i can see upside from this company. TKR is trading at a forward price to earnings of just 12.8, a price to book of just 2, and should be growing its earnings per share at 10-11% per annum for the next five years. I see an ascending triangle re-test of their all-time highs here and all looks good for a break through those highs.

Of Timken’s three businesses; Industrial, Steel and Automotive, it’s only the Automotive business that’s not having a record year. Orders to Ford Chrysler and GM are down and are sure to get worse by the end of the year. Once the Big 3 get their stuff together though look out.
