Telkom (formerly listed on the NYSE as TLK) is a South African telecom. They currently look very cheap at 4x trailing earnings and 2.5x tangible book, trading at multi-year lows.

After significant drop in share price, this company should see some near-term recovery.
Recs
Terrible news is already baked into the price and this is a high margin, steady income telco. The South African government will shape up in time and is unlikely to stay much any more corrupt or naive than the last few American ones. The ANC will easily beat their expectations from the bottom of an abyss.
Recs
The government (and therefore the market) will be going through several structural changes over the next year or so, which will make the entire country a difficult place to project.

High yeild and low P/E + International play = WIN

Stock drop was an over-reaction. Will bounce quite well.

The group jewel "Vodacom" has been sold.

Great market in future Sub-Saharan Africa. Already huge in South Africa.

Is that P/e right? this is a steal

A majority of Africa is a mess, but the poverty is so widespread, that must come if corruption ever begins to lessen its strangle hold on the continent.
I find myself over allocated in telecoms in an attempt to grab certain growth areas. For CAPs, these manner of foreign investing will have to do. Let us pray ADRs become more popular.

Africa is the next big growth story. TKG is undervalued. It operates both landline and cellular (via Vodacom). It expands outside of South Africa, where cell phone penetration is still low.
