Extremely dysfunctional organization. The only hope is that Reuters' CEO will run the new org. Learning a whole new business model and a slew of new acquisitions, though, will be a large beast to tame.

Thomson is starting a reorg that will allow better cross-selling and will streamline management and focus the business lines. Yeah, there is some disarray and they need to find ways to retain staff, but this is a challenge that they can meet, andI think the company is making a good start on the next few years.

Thomson and its competition are in mature markets and badly need to shift from merely providing information electronically -- fast becoming a commodity business -- to providing valued services built off their content. Until they do, they will be under constant pressure from customers to justify their high prices. Significant pressure is already on in the scientific journal publishing and legal markets.
