Dividends500 tracks the 200 strongest dividends in the S&P 500. To qualify as a strong dividend, the company must meet two simple requirements:

- A payout ratio below 50%
- An increasing dividend from the prior year

Because there are more than 200 dividend paying companies in the S&P 500 that meet these requirements, the qualifying companies with the largest dividend yields were chosen.

Dividends500 intends to test this FactSet article, which highlights these strong dividend paying companies and their outperformance versus the S&P 500 as a whole (Page 12).

Still like this stock after holding it for almost 4 years. Sales have been growing at 12% per year. Earnings growing at 15% per year. Their pre-tax profit margin has been increasing, as has their Earned on Equity. And they have NO DEBT. (Very unusual for a financial services company.) Their current P/E is above their long-term average, but only by a little. The PEG ratio is high, so this stock is not a huge bargain, but I still think it has good growth in it. It pays about a 2.5% dividend, so not too bad. I am hoping it will double in the next 5 years, which, with its dividend, would give me an 18% annual rate of return, which is above the average trend of the market.

This is one of the only financial firms I am happy to rate as outperform. A personal friend of mine works there, and while I have no special information, I do know what a special and brilliant mind he has. Buy as much of this stock as you can.

I read a lot of money maggs [probably too many]. All of them like to pick and follow assorted mutual funds, and every one of them cites several TROWs in their recommendation lists. So, why not recommend the company itself? They are poineering in health, emerging markets, and new energy investments. When the economy picks up, they'll take off.

I love that this company has no long-term debt and is still able to be an innovative leader in the financial services industry.

Republican talking points aside, there's a recovery happening here. Baby boomers are more likely to be trying to juice their savings now that they've been reminded of how capricious market & housing assets really are. All this spells soaring profits for the best mutual fund and investment advisory companies over the next several years. T. Rowe is one of the very best that is publicly traded.
