Very recently the Chinese Government permitted TSM to make a direct shipment to the Mainland of China, bypassing the previously existing 50 year prohibition of direct shipments. For the last 50 years, all products shipped from Taiwan first had to come into the mainland via Hong Kong. They are planning 4 more such shipments this year. Without knowing exact figures, there is no doubt that this will affect the bottom line significantly by lowering shipping costs considerably.

The world's largest chip foundry -- that is, it manufactures chips but doesn't deisgn them -- easily beat recent earnings estimates and is earning more from PC sales due to its proximity to Asian producers. It sports a market-crushing yield, a very low P/E relative to competitors, and gets financial help from the gov't of Taiwan. Sign me up.
