CAPS Rating:
**

The Company is a full-service, casual dining restaurant chain. It offers an assortment of specially seasoned and aged steaks hand-cut daily on the premises and cooked to order over open gas-fired grills.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Solid restaurant, known for their yeast rolls with cinnamon butter. Ladies go for this big time, especially my wife. Always packed, good atmosphere, good promotions. It's been battered down recently from it's highs in the teens, good time to get in.

I'm not a fan of restaurants in this consumer environment (high gas, high food, foreclosed homes).

Texas Roadhouse's main focus is steaks. Right now beef isn't experiencing a whole lot of inflation but that's going to change. In mere months the higher feed prices we have now are going to translate into higher meat prices (by virtue of the expensive being ingested)

People are not going to want newly expensive steaks when everything else costs so much. The latest consumer confidence numbers are
simply dreadful.

In about a month the minimum wage hike will kick in too, further pressuring margins.

Texas Roadhouse is pretty well managed but I don't think that's going to matter. Increased same store profits are going to be tough to achieve, in fact TXRH is expecting same store sales to be flat. I think they will likely be slightly negative despite their best efforts. Furthermore their 2008 forecast is wide (5-15% gain) setting up the potential for disappointment, I think their new restaurants will likely struggle.

The stock could easily lose another 10% form current levels.

I'm shorting a slew of restaurants in which beef is a specialty item. They are going to get bombarded from every possible angle: increasing food costs brought on by massive increases in both transportation costs and the costs of feed for livestock; slowing consumer demand sparked by shrinking discretionary incomes; and rising wages for their employees brought on by the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. Ouch.

Thumbs down on including APPB, CHUX, RT, RUTH, RYAN, SONC, STAR, TXRH.

Good food, good service, good price point, only a few locations with plenty of room to grow.

2008 is not going to be a great year for the restaurant industry as a whole. However, Texas Roadhouse is a growing (they plan to add another 30 restaurants in 2008), full service, casual dining chain. Even though they franchise restaurant operations, franchising is not the primary source of growth. In fact they have the right to buy back 62 of the current franchise operations.

Unlike TXRH's competitors, most of the restaurants are only opened for dinner Monday through Friday. That means that there is only one shift to manage during the week. They also have limited carry out and a limited menu change which translates into higher quality service, consistency of the food and dining experience, and faster table turns.

Their moto is "Lengendary Food and Lengendary Service'. There is a lot of room to grow and the current price looks like a good entry point for long term investors.

Texas Roadhouse brings a casual atmosphere to steak dining. A fairly good balance sheet and a lot of room to grow provides Txrh fairly good prospects in the future.
