"If you understood a business perfectly and the future of the business, you would need very little in the way of a margin of safety. So, the more vulnerable the business is, assuming you still want to invest in it, the larger margin of safety you'd need. If you're driving a truck across a bridge that says it holds 10,000 pounds and you've got a 9,800 pound vehicle, if the bridge is 6 inches above the crevice it covers, you may feel okay, but if it's over the Grand Canyon, you may feel you want a little larger margin of safety..."- 1997 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting

Low P/E, sector is beaten down, great entry point. Universal healthcare could be a problem long term

As mentioned by others, the stock is currently depressed for short-term reasons. Combined with organic growth and growth through acquisitions, it should do very well over the next year or so.

Way undervalued. At $40 would be considered cheap

Great company on sale. Huge share buybacks and bolt on aquisitions. Unlike their competition they are refusing to write unprofitable policies which is reducing revenue.
As for election, I think every election candidates talk up health care reform but once elected they can't get anything through. If you look at UNH's share price graph for the last 30 years you will see through elections and recessions UNH just keeps going making money for share holders.

Huge competitive moat through it's large customer base will give this MCO (Managed-Care Organization) a distinct advantage over it's competitors and inhibit new entrants. Oh and it's undervalued right now too. The fear is nationalized health care, but I honestly do not see that happening overnight if at all.

Price might be low with presidential uncertainty, but as much as I would like to see universal health care, it's not going to happen with obama or mccain. UNH will go back up.

beaten down, but not out - Target 70+ - Double your money heretrading at historical low PE, health care is going to be a hot market with all the boomers; UnitedHealth
connects its 70 million U.S. customers to a network of
health-care providers that includes 560,000 physicians and
4,800 hospitals nationwide. The firm reaps the benefits of
the positive feedback loop that results when customers
seek out UnitedHealth for access to so many care
providers and providers join the UnitedHealth network for
access to all those customers. The firm has the strongest
bargaining position in the industry, which allows it to
sustain a healthy medical cost ratio (medical costs as a
percentage of premium revenue) while also passing on
discounted prices for care to customers

I sold United Health Care a few years ago when it seemed to be getting too pricey. I could have made a lot more, but now that's water under the bridge. Now the price of the stock has fallen enough that it caught my eye again. I consider it a great value at the current price.

I don't put too much value into the worries based on political factors because I can't see the US going that far off the deep end.

P/E became really attractive showing signs of stock being oversold. Certainly a great point to get in for any type of investor - long-term to short-term.
