one of my all time favs. had it a few times here and in real life

value

Great combination of value and growth and dividend yield.

Universal Insurance is gradually expanding its market and has relatively low debt for an insurance company. The one element that may hold it back is a lack of clear communication and vision from the board.

Check it out. I've had this CAPS pick since June. I'm still in negative score territory, but I'm keeping it open for the long term.
Current Div yld 8.5% not bad and some may shy away at such a high yield. Well the payout ratio is only 42. I usually look for < 75 for most companies, but with insurance companies I prefer < 50. So far so good.
Sustainable? With a 5 year dividend growth rate of 21.08% I'd say so. Also with a Return on Equity of > 15% @ 17.4% I'm even more comforted.
I'd rather see a > 15% profit margin but @ 11.7% I can live with that.
Currently selling below book value and with a P/E of 5.6, well, I think I'm tempted to actually plunk down some real cash on this one.
I also have a Homeowners policy with them. I really like to own pieces of the companies I use for services, so I just may have to pick up a few shares. ;-)

Trading below tangible book and all metrics look outstanding. Risks associated with Southeastern U.S insurance industry are factored into price. My only concern is the negative cash flow but I think this will be short term with their steady revenue flow and the recent correction of an accounting error on an investment. Currently yielding 8.7%.

Not everything is perfect with this company. But it's hard to ignore how cheap it is. It's selling at about $4.06 and the P/E is 4.02. It's yielding 7.88%. Price to book value is 1.03. Cash per share is $8.92. Margins are pretty good IMHO. The balance sheet is good. Insiders own a little over 42%. I ended this pick a few days ago just so I could give it a thumbs up at a better price. But if I owned this one for real I'd be buying more.

The best value stock know of, it has more cash than mkt cap.

I sold out and bought HCII instead, better book value, cash position, and nice div.
Recs
5Y dividend growth rate of 51%, 6.4% yield and a 27% payout ratio. What is not to like.
Recs
Nice dividend stock! Affordable price.
Recs
Small cap, excellent dividend, plenty of room to grow, lots of insider ownership, low p/e, and it has TWICE its market value in cash, WOW!
Recs
Spreading to other, less windy, areas. Check out that dividend.

Testing a screen: PE < 10, yield > 3%, 5 stars on caps

Universal is my major carrier I use in my brokerage. I have been selling their HO3, HO8 and DP products for 12 years. I own and have owned the stock off and on for thelast 5 years. Does anyone worry that one of the owners is about to dump 4 million shares for estate tax planning and that the bosses keep exercising large option block s of shares? If they keep diluting the float how can we ever see any real appreciation. I get the impression they keep paying themselves throught the dividends.

Homerun...all..the..way!

Coastal homeowners insurance specialists with under 200 million capitalization??One cat 3 hurricane and this one gone in a heartbeat. No way it "sits and pays" for five years,or even three.
Recs
Huge dividend. Very good value. Revenue and EPS 3 year growth of 47.9 and 17.3 respectively. Growing to other states which makes it less likely to be as greatly effected by hurricanes in Florida. Insider ownership of 46.12% Like bigsmitty52 said in his assessment though as long as this stock continues to pay its huge dividend I will be happy. Any appreciation in price will be a bonus.
Recs
Look at the yield on this stock. If all it does is sit around and pay its dividend for the next five years, I will be a happy man. It will probably rise very slowly, as real estate in Florida begins to increase.

i think its good company thats been oversold for no good reason
