Iffy biotech w/ various meds in pipeline but no winners. Almost all key players have taken their profits and sold almost everything in the $26 range; what do they know?

VNDA has two phase three candidates for schizophrenia and insomnia that have shown very promising results in recent studies, and has more drugs on the way. Although its up 100% in the last few months, it's still only worth $600 million. With this market cap, VNDA offers very low risk for a biotech while providing the the potential for significant gains if either of these drugs is approved by the FDA.

You could spend years waiting for biotechs with great platforms, like Seattle Genetics or Isis Pharmaceuticals, to move their drugs into phase III. Years and years and years. Vanda has no great science. Instead they've raided Big Pharma for two drugs, both now in Phase 3, and both with successful tests in Phase 3. If you're a purist, sure, invest in the science and wait a decade. But if you're a capitalist, invest in the company whose drugs will be approved by the FDA within a year and hit the market by 2008. Both drugs, by the way, have billion dollar indications. It's a $3 billion market for insomnia and $10 billion for schizophrenia. And Vanda's drug for insomnia will undoubtedly grow the market for insomnia because it's a non-sedative, and it's safety profile is so sweet that they think it will be sold OTC. Ignore the recent market jumps, two rational reactions to the fact that our chances of FDA approvals jumped from 50-50 (drug in phase 3 trial) to 80-90 (positive news from both phase 3 trials).

The upward surge today (Dec. 7) will be followed by quick profit taking as insiders sell long held shares that have recently exploded in price.
