I hate to be someone who calls the bottom, but im feeling that the housing markets and... well... at the bottom, and this is the wreckage thats "left behind"... only 2 of the top 10 are residential, and they are apartments, for the people that lost there homes...

I think i actually gonna do more than speculate on this one, and buy this to diversify my portfolio a little bit...

"I think for the short run, year or so its gonna match the market."

famous last words, fingers crossed.

With the Fed in anti-recession mood, signs that real estate is bottoming out, and an increasing population, REITs strike me as getting close to the bottom. VNQ is the cheapest domestic REIT-based ETF.

I've been looking to get into REITS, I decided on this one. Nice dividend, very low fees and although the real estate market is down now, it won't stay this way forever. Besides, as a teacher in southern CA, this may be the only avenue I have to own property.

This index of REIT investmens is sufficiently diversified to gain investors the growth that comes with the real estate business WITHOUT the risk that comes with specific sectors of real estate.

I like reits and even if consumer housing pull backs, I still like owning it for the dividend and the fact that they invest in commercial properties which should do well if housing market suffers
