Captures the greater upside of emerging markets while diversifying some of the risk of the individual firms in such markets. Toss in a nice dividend and very low fees and this looks like a solid bet to outperform.

The holdings of the Vanguard Emerging Markets index (VWO) include Carlos Slim's America Movil, Teva Pharma, China Mobile, and the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras. It thus provides exposure to some large, strong businesses which stand to profit from growth in emerging economies. This basket of equities carries a relatively modest expense ration of 0.2%, and has a yield around 3%.
