Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ)

VZ has got to make some SERIOUS improvements to customer service if they want to retain current customers and attract new customers.

I don't care how many new / fancy products they come out with. They even brought the VA SCC down on themselves as of 11/01/09 due to delays in service of up to ten days that were far to common. They now have a "required" two day turn around time with up to $10,000 a day fines for failing to meet that deadline.

I am going to do a cross sectional analysis of Verizon and AT&T and determine which stock has the most upside potential based on valuation ratios, intrinsic value and future outlook….

Increase in dividend is great, but only if one can afford it. Even with the highest earnings estimates (which have been dropping), Verizon is looking at 60-80% of it's revenue required to pay out the new higher divdend.

Stock is your basic slug. Done little over the past year. I expect that to continue.

The recent news regarding the telecommunication sector specifically large carriers like AT&T and Verizon will place short term pressure on the stock price. I expect a drop of 5% in the short term, no more than 10%. For long term respective, I think the stock is bullish due to strong balance sheet, 6% div.

Verizon Wireless is solid right now but give it several years. CDMA technology will become archaic and they have yet to develop a competitive technology against 4G technology. LTE is still very vague and what they've come up with so far hasn't really shown much. AT&T is much weaker in North America right now but they are banking on the future and if Verizon doesn't step up, in 25 years they will not be the North American leader.

Poor customer service, unbearable contracts, and growing competitors (Vonage) at lower prices will begin to take it's toll as the recession continues.

As competition heats up in the fiberoptic space, and Verizon's notoriously poor customer service and general service infrastructure drive folks to those competitors, I think Verizon will take a beating.

I think VZ is a good company, just slightly over priced at the present time. I would look to buy in the mid-20's.

How many kids have cell phones? Almost all of them today some as early as age 6. How many of these kids that have cell phones under the age of lets say 18 actually pay for their cell phone bills?? I would say be safe to say less then 12% (guess) actually pay their cell phones bills, the other 88% parents pay for their bills. Now with the economy down, no job=no income, I feel that this holiday season kids that want cell phones, wont be getting cell phones because their parents dont have the extra $50 a month to pay these bills ($50x12months=$600+ a year per kid w/ cell phone. If parents are in contracts right now that dont expire for another year, they might be looking at the option of paying $200.00 to terminate the contract. Saving them around $400.00 a year, plus other expensive overages. This is all speculation.

people will get tierd of being ripped off by verizon and their stock may start to fall as a result of numerous class action lawsuits

T/iPhone gonna kill it.

I think that verizon needs to step up a little stronger and lower prices but they do have a strong foothold on the industry and will continue to grow

Verizon's customer service sucks! It's just a matter of time before this stock tanks!!

Short-term I think this will either match or underperform the S&P. However, long-term, I think this stock will outperform. It's a solid company and the demand only continues to rise for their products.
