Speculation about Buffett and GS bailing this company out pumped up the price 20%. However, the company still faces more writedowns and I can only forsee the sub-prime getting worse before it gets any better. Once forclosure rates trail off at a more stable pace, I'm ready to pounce back on this stock. I think this stock is extremely cheap from a long term standpoint, as WM can prob. hold its ground, but I a m still waiting for this to bottom.

WAMU still has some significant write offs coming this year, not only in subprime mortgage loans, but their credit cards.

Wham Mooooo! Years and years of bad lending practices have not quite washed out.
Large exposure in every category of defaulting mortgages.
With a market cap of over $14 Billion, nobody's gonna ride to the rescue.

I worked for WaMu for 3 years recently and I can say without hestitaion that current executive management is fully responsible for the mess they find themselves in. KK and his top half-dozen people are not capable of saving the bank, they must go.

I don't think WaMu is a buyout candidate because they don't have an effective or effiecient internal operation. The retail branches are old school S&Ls without the basic commercial bank requirements such as easy access locations, efficient drive throughs and large cash vaults. The mortgage portfolio is in the dumpster and credit cards are barely above water. All this leaves very little for an outsider to covet, unless a purchase and breakup were done.

It will dip lower than this occasionally but people will always be there to scoop them up for discount. No doubt they'll recover over time, the question is how soon? I'll be doing covers on this one.

From 42 to 18. Its bad,is it that bad? Lower Fed rates will help these guys get their house in order.

The mortgage crisis in California, where WaMu has most of its loan portfolio, is far from over. The worst has yet to come.

It is very depressed relative to its earning power.

When and if the home market stabilizes, their risk will be reduced drastically.

The stimulus provided by the low Fed rates and potentially lower rates has a direct effect on their profitability.
